I re-created this thread since #XVI got too large for the dial-upers. Everyone is welcome to this thread and welcome to post. All I ask is that you follow the guidelines I have set for this thread, we need to keep the dial-upers in mind. Enjoy.... :)


SETI/BOINC MILESTONE THREAD GUIDELINES:

01. You must be a current, active participant in the science of this project to post milestone messages.
02. This thread is for announcements of milestones for any BOINC project.
03. This thread will allow helping new users only if related to SETI/BOINC.
04. This thread will not allow milestones not related to SETI/BOINC or other BOINC projects.
05. This thread will not allow flaming any other users. [See this thread.]
06. This thread will not allow any profanity.
07. This thread will not allow 'stretching': no imbedded images. While quoting a post with a very long broken URL in it, fix it if you know BBCode, otherwise delete it or place spaces in it to break it up so it will wrap properly. While making a post, with a long URL, use a small link name. Or, another option is to use http://tinyurl.com/ to create a new "tiny" link. If you must include an image in your post, create a link to it, no thumbnails, no images. Stats images are allowed in signatures only .

HINTS FOR DIALUP USERS:

You can update your preferences in your account. Edit your "Forum preferences":

01. Set "Show images as links". This will also create a link for images in signatures, but will not hide avatars.
02. Set "Hide avatar images". All you will see is the username and stats.
03. Set "Hide signatures". Some signatures have useful information, links to related sites and such and witty quotes. If you set #1 above, you will still see the information, but any images would be loaded as a link. If you set this, there will be no signatures displayed.

This new thread replaces: [XVI], [XV], [XIV], [XIII], [XII], [XI], [X], [IX], [VIII], [VII], [VI], [V], [IV], [III], [II], [I], [Beta].

I recently passed the two million (2,000,000) BOINC combined mark, made it into the top one-third of one percent overall (99.68001% at best), world rank 5193 at best, and am looking forward to celebrating my ten year anniversary with SETI (May 20, 1999 - 2009).

My pleasure Sir! :) Long, long ago, in a BOINC world far into the past, I decided that 300 posts would be the upper limit for this thread. Back when I started doing this thread, I was on dial-up. I hated how slow threads would load, especially with pictures and the like.

I check the thread periodically to see the post count and when it reaches 300, or more, I start a new one.

This thread topic has it's own milestone. It has been going strong for just over 4 years. I started the "Beta" version on March 13, 2005. Not bad! I would say it's THE longest running thread topic in BOINC history. I really enjoy doing it.

I'm not sure when it will happen, but my SETI credits are approaching 1/2 a mil. I now have this PC, my WinXP Pro box, and a 64 bit Linux box crunching. I just started the Linux box about a week ago after upgrading it to 64 bit Linux. I'm now waiting for the SETI credits to start pouring in. Too bad the Astropulse WUs take forever to crunch. :( Oh well.
