Message 191087 - Posted: 20 Nov 2005, 20:54:22 UTC
Last modified: 20 Nov 2005, 20:55:57 UTC

I re-created this thread since my other one got too large for the dial-upers. This new thread has major changes to the guidelines. Please take note. Anyone is welcome to this thread and welcome to post. All I ask is that you follow the guidelines I have set for this thread. Enjoy.... >:-) (-:<

SETI/BOINC MILESTONE THREAD GUIDELINES:

    01. You must be a current, active participant in the science of this project to post milestone messages.
    02. This thread is for announcements of milestones for any BOINC project.
    03. This thread will allow helping new users only if related to SETI/BOINC.
    04. This thread will not allow milestones not related to SETI/BOINC or other BOINC projects.
    05. This thread will not allow flaming any other users. [See this thread.]
    06. This thread will not allow minus rating, plus rating is fine.
    07. This thread will not allow any profanity.
    08. This thread will not allow 'stretching': no imbedded graphics/pics and while quoting a post with a very long URL in it, fix it if you know BBCode, otherwise delete it or place spaces in it to break it up so it will wrap properly. Another option is to use this site to create a new link. If you must include a graphic/pic in your post, create a link to it, no thumbnails.

HINTS FOR DIALUP USERS:

You can update your preferences in your account. Edit your "Forum preferences":

    01. Set "Show images as links". This will also create a link for images in signatures, but will not hide avatars.
    02. Set "Hide avatar images". All you will see is the username and stats.
    03. Set "Hide signatures". Some signatures have useful information, links to related sites and such and witty quotes. If you set #1 above, you will still see the information, but any images would be loaded as a link. If you set this, there will be no signatures displayed.

This new thread replaces [III], [II], [I], [Beta].

Hey, look I have 75 K seti, am number one by RAC in Boinc Alpha (seven by total score) and have exceeded 130K total boinc credits. And let's not forget my 6200 classic credits

04. This thread will not allow milestones not related to SETI/BOINC or other BOINC projects.

It seems a bit contradictory to me. Is or is not it allowed to post other BOINC projects' milestones?

PS I see you've already corrected BBcode tags for the previous threads.

Milestones can be posted for any BOINC project. If say [insert username here] is crunching for some DC project that does NOT run under BOINC, those milestones are not allowed. I decided to open my [the real] thread up to all BOINC projects because of reading many users posts here stating that it should.

Yeah, I caught the broken URL when I was checking the post. I made the fix to my text file here on my PC as well. Which reminds me, I need to add this one to the list now, thanks. >:-) (-:<

Please excuse my lack of knowledge about forum etiquette but....
What difference does it make who started or continued a thread? If there is no income or other monetary reward why bother? Fighting to continue a thread?? That's just weird and who cares? Not I!

To some people, like Siran, it does make a difference.
I also find Thierry's behaviour to be a bit impolite.

Sergey in essense it does seem contradictory, but if I said I travelled 3100 miles today that would be a milestone that is not related to SETI or any other BOINC project.

I've been maintaining the spawning of my original Milestones thread for about a year. Everyone knows it's here. This is my 5th iteration of the original, which I cannot find anymore. Think about how you'd feel if you were doing something like this and someone comes along and STEALS it from you. You wouldn't like it, neither did I. >:-) (-:<

I feel a bit culpible. I stated it was time for a new one, and I think Thiery was just trying to be polite. Theirry hasn't been here for a while and probably didn't know your feelings on this issue. You are the only one here with a dedicated thread you know? Easy to overlook.

And yet a while ago it was he who got on me in Science for posting a news article that he had also posted in a different thread.

Since we are off-topic. No he isn't. He's the only one in NC with a "dedicated" thread.

Tim has the Rocky's Cafe, Misfit the BOTD, The Poltical Thread, and a few others, Jon always had the Flame Thread. AzWoody and ksnash share the "bitch" threads..

It's always been an un-written rule that the originator could decide when to close his/her thread and reopen a new one.

Siran is going through Pon Farr so his emotions are a wee bit exciteable :)
