Pardon me if this was addressed before, but ...

Just upgraded to BOINC 6.10.56, which may or may not have caused this. On my first S@H update after this week's outrage, received this message:

08/06/2010 7:04:08 PM SETI@home Message from server: Invalid app version description

All completed tasks appear to have uploaded normally, and stats updated about as expected. Should I be concerned?

Both could be due to the work they have been trying to do today.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=602657071 I got the same thing. It may just be the servers arent synced. I did notice that one of the WU's that show on my list didnt finish downloading yet. I assume that will clear by tomorrow

I'm getting this "Not in DB" issue too, only since i started running the optimized app in the last few hours. Got worried i was the only one having issues.

Yes, be concerned, but don't panic.

The "Invalid app version description" message was added with changeset[trac]changeset:21153[/trac] which is described as "scheduler: sweeping changes to the way job runtimes are estimated". Those changes were applied to BOINC's trunk but not to the server stable branch. My guess is the Scheduler here is still based on the stable branch, but some of the many trunk changes have been ported in.

For anonymous platform hosts, the core client sends app version information derived from app_info.xml in requests to the Scheduler. The changes made server-side have led to that information being ignored, the Message you've seen is the direct consequence, and showing "not in DB" rather than one of the variations of "Anonymous platform" is a secondary effect.

There will probably be other side effects. I wouldn't be surprised if the amount of work delivered is quite different than the amount requested, for instance.

09-Jun-10 09:04:03 SETI@home Message from server: (reached daily quota of 100 tasks)

Is this one of the side effects ?! I didn't trashed any WU's recently, not even VLAR ones. I do have max. 100/day quota on my rig, but it never prevented it to get enough work as long as they are valids. Does it mean that my GPU can not longer be 24 hour efficient, cause it draws 140-150 mid range WU's per day ?
Well whatever it is, I am certainly surprised.

Got the same problem! I also noticed that my last two reported results are listed as "Not in DB" under "Application" (instead of "Anonymous platform").

For now I'm treating this a minor annoyance, not as a problem. My regular project updates continue, WUs are downloaded, crunched and reported. I just get the same message each time I communicate with S@H.

09/06/2010 9:09:24 AM SETI@home Message from server: Invalid app version description

BTW, my results status all report as "Anonymous platform", even ones awarded points after these messages started.

It appears that the Application = Not in DB (instead of Anonymous platform)
depends on the time Sent (downloaded), not the Time reported or validated -
the text is "Not in DB" even for tasks "In progress" Sent after 9 Jun 2010:

I get the following as I run XP x64 sp2:

6/9/2010 7:11:48 PM SETI@home Message from server: No work sent
6/9/2010 7:11:48 PM SETI@home Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home Enhanced.
6/9/2010 7:11:48 PM SETI@home Message from server: (reached daily quota of 100 tasks)

My app_info file is below and yes I clearly do have a valid file and It's a 64 bit file, Since It's been working fine for Years why is It being flagged? Could this be a reason why no work for some?

Hi here Im again,

my machine act now pretty like yours, Bill.

Still get the error msg since Ive rebooted yesterday evening, but at least after reboot, my host is now able to download WU's again, the error msg remained.

It looks strange but at least its crunching again =) , I think that whole thing is serverside located and we cant really do something, modify app_info maybe would be a way but with a lager vers then "603" nothing helped in my case, and Ive only tried to add a newer app vers in it, based on trial and error ;-)

Happy Idle is now 0% again =) and Im still on SSE4.1

kind regards

No error messages at all on any of my machines (Vista 64 and Windows 7 64, with Boinc 6.10.18, opt AP and MB, (opt AP and MB, but stock CUDA on my ION))

No "(reached daily quota of 100 tasks)" either, but that's not so odd, since I never make 100 tasks on any of the machines/day.

It all works perfect, and I have no problems getting new WU's (CUDA's too) as soon as new files are added to the splitters. I even got 3 AP's today :-)

Sten-Arne

Lucky, i don't get any AP's. :(

I too am getting the "Message from server: Invalid app version description"

in my BOINC and SETI clients. It seems to have a serious effect with me. I no longer have most of my active WU's visible in the "Tasks" status for my account. I should have about 6 active task showing but all I see are two work unit ID's with the normal columns filled in for "In Progress" WU's. The third WU listed just has its Task and Work Unit ID's filled in and the rest of the columns don't even show. And one of the "In Progress" WU's doesn't even have my computer ID showing, just my wingman. All the rest of the columns are missing also. So what is going on? Is it because I run an anonymous platform with privately developed clients? How can I restore the normal behavior of the Task in my account profiles.

It is believed that it is a database problem, and not originating from your machine. Your machine is fine, and it has nothing to do with the anonymous platform. Its one of those things that we just have to wait out until it gets fixed. They seem to be having multiple issues at the moment, so straighting them out may take some time.
