Hi, everybody - Just some comments about forum moderation here.

I've been out of town for a couple months. Now that I'm back I'm once again an "in-house" moderator (there's also Eric and David - Rom is taking a break from the boards).

Basically all a moderator should do is remove content from these boards that contain language/graphics unsuitable for children. A good rule of thumb is: if it can't be on (American) network television, it shouldn't be on our boards.

And that's it. We moderators aren't here to settle disputes, or remove content that is disagreeable (even if aimed directly at us) - we're here just to clean up the dirty words and pictures.

Of course, there are some gray areas: people who are proving to be *extremely* antisocial may get knocked down a few pegs. This, of course, is a judgment call. Not everybody is going to agree about who should get what punishment - but I recently asked the other moderators to mellow out in this regard.

I also ask that people on these boards keep their feelings in check. I've found that human communication over the internet seems about 50% more confrontational than it actually is. Of course there are jerks out there who have no social grace. Three key words about how to deal with these people: "let it go." Try your best not to fuel the fires, you know what I mean?

Okay I have work to do...

- Matt

OK. This is getting confusing. There has just been a new set of posting rules put in place (again) but now you are saying that no one is supposed to enforce them? ..and that you are going back to the old rules.

I don't mean to be rude or nothing Matt, but you have been away for a while. Wouldn't it have been better to see how the land lies before laying down declarations like this? It seems unfair on the mods who have been trying so hard to end the constant flames wars on these boards..and just as they were starting to have some success too.

Nervous about the status quo?

Finally we have progress! I don't know why the mods couldn't figure this out on their own from the very beginning? Matt, perhaps you can make a few extra bucks teaching a class at mod school. :-)

Anyway Matt thank you for all your hard work! It is definately appreciated!

Good thing that the red-x function is now disabled as well.

Michael, Es99 is a good friend of mine and I would appreciate it if you would lighten up with her.

As for the "status quo", I see the boards going forward on a positive note. And, the "Old Guard" will be right there at the forefront. The "Old Guard" is going nowhere, they are staying put. They are staying where they belong.... (-:<

I should hope so..I don't recall asking, hinting about anyone leaving. Everyone is welcome here, inclyuding the "old guard" (whoever they are). :)

I'm glad Matt put his foot down.

Happy Crunching to all :)

At least they're acknowledging going back to doing sod all. Of course, this was after causing a lot of acrimony in the process. Lovely. About the only good thing is that they're no longer targeting specific individuals.

Welcome back, Matt. Be sure to ask Captain Avatar what happened to my Green Star.

Yes, they are; there has been no change at all in that regard in the several years i've been here.

No Michael, I'm not worried. You forget that I was posting here before the mods bought in their new regime, and to be honest I never really liked it because I thought it was too draconian and I wasn't allowed to respond to certain people in a way I felt they truly deserved.

However, not everyone is a tough as me and I could see how it helped those who weren't so good at sticking up for themselves. Taking that into consideration I was willing to support the mods in what they were trying to achieve as it was for the greater good.

It seems that things are to go back to the old way. I wouldn't be so smug about that if I were you, as your friends can no longer hide from the consequences of their behaviour by running to the mods.

Oh dear, what a shame.
