Message 291345 - Posted: 29 Apr 2006, 16:00:45 UTC - in response to Message 283415.

I updated my website to make it even easier to hear some open mic and karaoke performances. (They are at least 1.5 months old, though.) A streaming mp3 player is now being used so nothing needs to be downloaded. Click here. I see my previous post received a minus and I hope it was just due to too many links being provided as opposed to any hard feelings. I also see Kaleste is back so perhaps she at the least would like to check out the updated website. Have any new recordings to share with us, Kaleste? (I've been too busy myself to be on here much or to record anything in the past few months.)
Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes.

99 Red Balloons - Nena

Bugglegum with a political undercut

You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got
Set them free at the break of dawn
Til one by one, they were gone
Back at base bugs in the software
Flash the message, something's out there
Floating in the summer sky
99 red balloons go by

99 red balloons
Floating in the summer sky
Panic bells it's red alert
There's something here from somewhere else
The war machine springs to life
Opens up one eager eye
Focusing it on the sky as 99 red balloons go by

99 Decision street
99 ministers meet
To worry, worry, super flurry
Call the troops out in a hurry
This is what we've waited for
This is it boys, this is war
The president is on the line
As 99 red balloons go by

99 knights of the air
Ride super high tech jet fighters
Everyone's a super hero
Everyone's a Captain Kirk
With orders to identify
To clarify, and classify
Scramble in the summer sky
99 red balloons go by

99 dreams I have had
In every one a red balloon
It's all over and I'm standing pretty
In this dust that was a city
If I could find a souvenir
Just to prove the world was here
And here is a red balloon
I think of you, and let it go
Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.

German version of 99 Luft Ballons:

Lyrics

FOUND 99luftballons SONG

Hast Du etwas Zeit fur mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich.
Von 99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont.
Denkst Du vielleicht grad' an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich.
Von 99 Luftballons
Und dass sowas von sowas kommt.

99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont.
Hielt man fuer UFOs aus dem All
Darum schickte ein General.
Eine Fliegerstaffel hinterher
Alarm zu geben, wenn es so war.
Dabei war da am Horizont
Nur 99 Luftballons.

99 Duesenjaeger
Jeder war ein grosser Krieger.
Hielten sich fuer Captain Kirk
Das gab ein grosses Feuerwerk.
Die Nachbarn haben nichts gerafft
Und fuehlten sich gleich angemacht.
Dabei schoss man am Horizont
Auf 99 Luftballons.

99 Kriegsminister
Streichholz und Benzinkanister.
Hielten sich fuer schlaue Leute
Witterten schon fette Beute.
Riefen: Krieg und wollten Macht
Mann, wer haette das gedacht.
Dass es einmal soweit kommt
Wegen 99 Luftballons.

99 Jahre Krieg
Liessen keinen Platz fuer Sieger.
Kriegsminister gibt es nicht mehr
Und auch keine Duesenflieger.
Heute zieh ich meine Runden
Seh die Welt in Truemmern liegen.
Hab' nen Luftballon gefunden
Denk' an Dich und lass' ihn fliegen.

One of my favourites...

ARTIST: Monty Python
TITLE: The Galaxy Song
MOVIE: The Meaning of Life
LINK: A study of the Galaxy Song

{Spoken, loosely}
Whenever life get you down, Mrs. Brown
And things seem hard or tough
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft
And you feel that you've had quite enu-hu-hu-huuuuff

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at 900 miles an hour
That's orbiting at 19 miles a second, so it's reckoned
A sun that is the source of all our power
The sun and you and me, and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at 40,000 miles an hour
Of the galaxy we call the Milky Way

Our galaxy itself contains 100 billion stars
It's 100,000 light-years side-to-side
It bulges in the middle, 16,000 light-years thick
But out by us it's just 3000 light-years wide
We're 30,000 light-years from galactic central point
We go round every 200 million years
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whiz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light you know
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
Because there's bugger all down here on Earth

Captain & Tennille - Love Will Keep Us Together Lyrics

Love, Love will keep us together
Think of me babe whenever
Some sweet talking guy comes along singing his song
Don't mess around,
You got to be strong
Just Stop, 'cause I really love You
Stop, I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

You, You belong to me now
Ain't gonna set you free now
When those guys start hanging around talking me down
Hear with your heart and you won't hear a sound
Just Stop, 'cause I really love you
Stop, I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

Whatever young and beautiful
Someday your looks will be gone
When the others turn you off
Who'll be turning you on

I will, I will, I will, I will
Be there to share forever
Love will keep us together
Said it before and I'll say it again while others pretend
I'll need you now and I'll need you then
Stop 'cause I really love Ya
Stop I'll be thinking of Ya
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

Another Monty Python Classic:

Bruces' Philosophers Song

Lyrics & Files: http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/~davea/philosopher.html

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant who was very rarely stable.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar who could think you under the table.

David Hume could out-consume Wilhelm Freidrich Hegel.
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine who was just as sloshed as Schlegel.

There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya 'bout the raising of the wrist.
Socrates himself was permanently pissed.

John Stewart Mill, of his own free will, on half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could stick it away, half a crate of whiskey every day.

Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle, Hobbes was fond of his dram.
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart: "I drink, therefore I am".

Yes, Socrates himself is particularly missed;
A lovely little thinker, but a bugger when he's pissed.

Halfway down the stairs is a stair where I sit.
There isn't any other stair quite like it.
I'm not at the bottom, I'm not at the top.
So this is the stair where I always stop.

Halfway up the stairs isn't up and isn't down.
It isn't in the nursery, it isn't in the town.
And all sorts of funny thoughts run round my head.
It isn't really anywhere, it's somewhere else instead.

Halfway down the stairs is a stair where I sit.
There isn't any other stair quite like it.
I'm not at the bottom, I'm not at the top.
So this is the stair where I always stop.

Artist: Wright Chely
Song: Bumper of My S.U.V.
Album: Everything

I've got a bright red sticker on the back of my car,
Says: "United States Marines."
An' yesterday a lady in a mini-van,
Held up her middle finger at me.
Does she think she knows what I stand for,
Or the things that I believe?
Just by looking at a sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

See, my brother Chris, he's been in,
For more than 14 years now.
Our Dad was in the Navy during Vietnam,
Did his duty, then he got out.
And my Grandpa earned his Purple Heart,
On the beach of Normandy.
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

But that doesn't mean that I want war:
I'm not Republican or Democrat.
But I've gone all around this crazy world,
Just to try to better understand.
An' yes, I do have questions:
I get to ask them because I'm free.
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

'Cause I've been to Hiroshima,
An' I've been to the DMZ.
I've walked on the sand in Baghdad,
Still don't have all of the answers I need.
But I guess I wanna know where she's been,
Before she judges and gestures to me,
'Cause she don't like my sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

So I hope that lady in her mini-van,
Turns on her radio and hears this from me.
As she picks up her kids,
From their private school,
An' drives home safely on our city streets.
Or to the building where her church group meets:
Yeah, that's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V.

NEIL SEDAKA-The Immigrant

Harbours opened their arms to the young searching foreigner
Come to live in the light of the beacon of liberty
Planes and open skies, billboards would advertise
Was it anything like that when you arrived
Dreamboats carry the future to the heart of America
People were waiting in line for a place by the river

It was a time when strangers were welcome here
Music would play, they tell me the days were sweet and clear
It was a sweeter tune and there was so much room that people could come from everywhere

Now he arrives with his hopes and his heart set on miracles
Come to marry his fortune with a hand full of promises
to find they've closed the door, they don't want him anymore
there isn't anymore to go around
Turning away he remembers he once heard a legend
that spoke of a mystical magical land America

There was a time when strangers were welcome here
Music would play, they tell me the days were sweet and clear
It was a sweeter tune and there was so much room that people could come from everywhere

There was a time when strangers were welcome here
Music would play, they tell me the days were sweet and clear
There was a time when strangers were welcome here
Music would play, they tell me the days were sweet and clear

Brother John - Chris De Burgh

Well brother john went down to the garden
On a long hot summer’s day.
To watch that girl, he would hide in the shadows
As she worked the time away.
With her long black hair and her eyes of fire,
And a body to drive men crazy...!
It was on that day there would be a change
In the world of brother john.

She felt his and she walked up beside him
And she took him by the hand.
She said, brother john, it’s so hard to be holy,
Would you like to be a man?
I will meet you tonight at the monastery wall--
If you’re there we will find out together,
And the devil said, there’s a place in hell,
For the soul of brother john!

Hallelujah! temptation is here!
It’s not a dream anymore.
Hallelujah! it’s finally here...
I’ve been waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting...!

Well brother john lay tossing and turning
In his bed in the heat of the night.
He heard his name and he went to the window
Where she was in the pale moonlight.
Oh the sins of the flesh are too much to deny!
He was lost to her body forever!
And the devil laughed and the angels cried
For the soul of brother john.

Hallelujah! temptation is here!
It’s not a dream anymore.
Hallelujah! it’s finally here...
I’ve been waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting...!

Hallelujah! temptation is here!
It’s not a dream anymore.
Hallelujah! it’s finally here...
I’ve been waiting, I’m waiting, I’m waiting...!

Temptation is here... for brother john...
Temptation is here... for brother john....

GIRLS by the Beastie Boys (Listen to me live!)

Girls - all I really want is girls
And in the morning it's girls
Cause in the evening it's girls

I like the way that they walk
And it's chill to hear them talk
And I can always make them smile
From White Castle to the Nile

Back in the day
There was this girl around the way
She liked by home-piece M.C.A.
He said he would not give her play
I asked him, "Please?" - he said, "You may."
Her pants were tight and that's ok
If she would dance - I would D.J.
We took a walk down to the bay

I hope she'll say,
"Hey me and you should hit the hay!"
I asked her out - she said, "No way!"
I should have probably guessed her gay
So I broke North with no delay
I heard she moved real far away
That was two years ago this May
I seen her just the other day
Jockin' Mike D. to my dismay

Girls - to do the dishes
Girls - to clean up my room
Girls - to do the laundry
Girls - and in the bathroom
Girls - that's all I really want is girls
Two at a time - I want girls
With new wave hairdos - I want girls
I ought to whip out my - girls, girls, girls, girls, girls!

The World Needs A Hero - Megadeth

An iron fist quietly sits inside the velvet glove
Take control, untouchable just like God above
I can’t escape, wrapped in red tape, what will become of me?
If I object, then I defect my country ’tis of thee

The white house is calling
Tell them I’ll call them back
Just tell them anything
Yeah get them off my back

The world needs a hero

Not that I would ever lie but I have no choice
Words I say heard today are not mine, just my voice

Nato is on line 1
They want to talk to me
Tell them that I’m not in
Tell them that I’m not free

The world needs a hero

Phantom rule, the hidden jewel who’s really in control?
On puppet strings, a nation swings undermined by moles

The un is on hold
Tell them I’ll call them back
Yeah tell them anything
Just get them off my back

The world needs a hero

Solo - mustaine
Solo - pitrelli

Dave the white house is calling
They want to talk to me
Tell them that I can’t be bought
Tell them that I’m not free

The world needs a hero
Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.

The Internationale [variant words in square brackets]

Arise ye workers [starvelings] from your slumbers
Arise ye prisoners of want
For reason in revolt now thunders
And at last ends the age of cant.
Away with all your superstitions
Servile masses arise, arise
We'll change henceforth [forthwith] the old tradition [conditions]
And spurn the dust to win the prize.

So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.

No more deluded by reaction
On tyrants only we'll make war
The soldiers too will take strike action
They'll break ranks and fight no more
And if those cannibals keep trying
To sacrifice us to their pride
They soon shall hear the bullets flying
We'll shoot the generals on our own side.

No saviour from on high delivers
No faith have we in prince or peer
Our own right hand the chains must shiver
Chains of hatred, greed and fear
E'er the thieves will out with their booty [give up their booty]
And give to all a happier lot.
Each [those] at the forge must do their duty
And we'll strike while the iron is hot.

I have been in this line of work for a long time
And I have never seen anything so strange and so peculiar
It's all so deranged.
See for yourself!
Ladies and gentelmen of the jury:
step right up and view the freak.
We caught him red-handed
down by the morgue where he sleeps.
And if you think that that's disgusting
wait 'til you hear this
(I never could do it justice, so here are his own words)

"Dead girls like me.
Dead girls like me -
Can't you see?

I don't expect you to understand me.
I am not an ordinary man,
and I have seen things with these eyes you'd never comprehend
See for yourself, now.
Take those living women -
They have never shown me any kindness of any kind.
It's not my fault I look this way -
I try to talk to them,
they look at me,
and walk away,
so, really, is it so strange?
Dead girls like me.
Can't you see?
Only dead girls like me.

Dead girls like me.
Can't you see?
Only dead girls don't walk away from me,
sad as it seems...

Have you ever tasted love like this?
Cool and smooth.
Have you ever been accepted unconditionaly?
Have you ever loved someone who didn't hurt you, didn't harm you?

There's no pain and there's no pressure,
no overblown humiliation,
there's no fear, there's no shame...
(there's no pulse)
But is it so strange?

Dead girls like me.
Can't you see?
Only dead girls like me.
Oh! Dead girls like me.
Can't you see?
Only dead girls
Don't walk away from me
sad as it seems...

Never Tear Us Apart ~ INXS

Don’t ask me
What you know is true
Don’t have to tell you
I love your precious heart
I
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never tear us apart

We could live
For a thousand years
But if I hurt you
I’d make wine from your tears

I told you
That we could fly
’cause we all have wings
But some of us don’t know why

I
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never ever tear us apart

I cannot allow the Internationale to be quoted without the rejoinder to it:
The working class
Can kiss my a*se,
I've got the foreman's job at last.
I'm out of work,
And on the dole,
So stuff your red flag
Up your h*le.

'Twas on Gibraltar's rock, so fair,
I saw a maiden lying there.
And as she lay in sweet repose,
A puff of wind blew up her clothes.
A sailor who was passing by,
Tipped his hat and winked his eye.
And then he saw to his despair,
She had the red flag flying there.

with apologies to those of gentle gender ... !!!!!
