Allow me to draw your attention to the new Ignore function, Janus has added to the Forum boards. On the Preferences, Forum, Filtered users, it says: Ignore specific users You can define a list of users to ignore. These users will have to write posts with very high rating in order to not be filtered |

Also please report if you have any problems with it. |

Thanks Janus. It appears to be working fine. I've got three accounts excluded. Account frozen... |

Other posts in that thread are not filtered out. Maybe it's a 'previously read' messages thing. |

If a post has a rating higher than your emphasize threshold and the user that made the post is on your filterlist the message will NOT be filtered. So if a user says anything that you would consider important (ie. above your emphasize threshold) if he hadn't been on your filter list, the post will be shown. Example: Post by me and I'm on your filterlist: rating 3 (and your emphasize threshold is 5) will be filtered Post by me and I'm on your filterlist: rating 8 (and your emphasize threshold is 5) will be NOT filtered, but not emphasized as usual either. Post by me and I'm on your filterlist: rating 42 (and your emphasize threshold is 5, lower threshold is -25) will be emphasized. In other words, if you also want to filter posts for a filtered user where the posts have a high rating your should raise your emphasize threshold. |

It could easily be changed to be a bit more strict, like a post would need to be twice your emphasize threshold to unfilter or that it can't unfilter at all, but I'll need to know the general opinion on this before I change anything. |

But if the phenomenon with multiple accounts for one user will hit the ceiling of the numbers of ignored userId's, we can get back to you, I guess? But again, I'm very grateful! Thanks! |

Lena, love the quote :) But did you know it's Schrodinger's Cat, not Schodinger (I dunno how to make the umlaut)? Don't want to nitpick, sorry. <img border="0" src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/one/stats.php?userID=268&prj=1&trans=off" /><img border="0" src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/one/stats.php?userID=268&prj=4&trans=off" /> |

I just wrote a close thread function for BOINC. It's currently verified by Bruce Allen from E@H. I thought that would be very usefull how about you? BOINC Doc | Team-Site | BOINC-Podcast |

I have 2 questions about the feature. First, it says there is a limited number of entries possible on the list. What is that number? Second, if one currently has that numher of 'ignores' set, and someone comes along that you would rather filter, how does one remove an entry to make room? Also, a personal opinion (your mileage may vary, see store for details...). I consider putting a user on ignore a rather drastic step. If I do so, it is because I do not wish to see ANY of their posts. I would rather it not be possible for a post by said ignored user to override the filter due to a high rating. It seems to me that having that 'override' possible will only encourage more instances of a controversial user gaining access to a bunch of 'bogus' accounts in order to 'game the system', similar to what we saw with all the '-1' stalking. That said, I think that this feature is a step in the right direction. Good job. https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

When you enter a person's ID number, his/her name (if applicable) and ID number will be shown in a list, complete with a remove button. > Also, a personal opinion (your mileage may vary, see store for details...). I agree on this one. Ignore should just block out all posts, no override other than the (already used) "read thread unfiltered" option. |

Sounds like a personal problem, Alex. Is this how you say "thank you" to Janus? |

> First, it says there is a limited number of entries possible on the list. What is that number? Depends. But it averages around 42 (which should be enough for most people). If 42 is not enough it'll probably be changed to unlimited (ie. the possibility of ignoring everyone) - but 42 seems like such a nice number which also keeps the load on the DB fairly low. > I just wrote a close thread function for BOINC. It's currently verified by > Bruce Allen from E@H. I thought that would be very usefull how about you? A few issues with such a function - which is also why there is none at the moment and isn't ment to be one. Most importantly it does not prevent anyone from making a thread "XXXX 2" and continue there when thread "XXXX" is closed. In other words it can add to confusion about where to post a reply (and I really think that people should be allowed to reply if they want - in my eyes forcing a close is not a good idea). This is the case no matter if this is a user function or a moderator function. So such a function could only be used to tell people to stop posting - not to force them - In that case you can just as well write a post telling people to stop posting. The situation is the same: either they stop or they don't =) |
