Message 431576 - Posted: 6 Oct 2006, 1:06:48 UTC - in response to Message 431325.

My point is, all my HDDs are Western Digital. I will buy no other brand. If a HDD can go for 10 years and have no problems, I am sold on the manufacturer.... (-:<

I once had a WD disk that lasted a whole two months :D Come to think of it, that was about 10 years ago *lol* One of those very very big 1Gb disks that DOS couldn't handle so I had to install a harddrive manager - and an extra harddrive controller as computers back then couldn't handle more than two drives (before EIDE). Hmm. Come to think of it - my new one can't either... MY GOD! I've travelled back 10 years in time!!! *lol*

My first PC, a 486 DX2-66 screamer, had a 1.2GB WD HDD and it went belly up in 96, after 6 months of ownership. That was when I got this 8GB WD HDD and it is going strong to date. I replaced the generic IDE controller with a Promise EIDE. Had DOS v6.22 and Windoze v3.11. Moved up to Win98 and haven't looked back.... (-:<

P.S. We're a bit off topic. But it was my fault.... (-:<

Quite coincidentally, I have ended up with all my HDDs being Quantum Fireballs. I'll let you know in 10 years if they're any good!! lol
Still off topic (you started it!! lol) 10 years ago, My SECOND PC had a 270 MB HDD, which I thought I could never fill up. It had Windows 3.11 and 95 as dual boot.
I deleted 3.11 as soon as I got used to Win 95. 3 months later, I had to buy a 1.5 Gig HDD for all the stuff I was installing.
The whole rig was a 486 dx2/80, with a massive 16 Meg of RAM, a total of 1.77 Gig of HDD space, an 8x CD drive, Creative Sound Blaster 16 bit card, 1 Meg of Video RAM and a Canon BJ 10ex printer (first of it's kind).
I thought I had a supercomputer! :)
