Anger?

I have no anger.

I do have a brewski though...

Those that do have anger, go get a six pack, and have a brew...

Anger is brewing...?

Are the recent comments really any worse than we have seen in the past? You want REAL anger, try the cafe! I daren't post to some of the threads there, for fear of being flamed to a crisp!

As far as I can see, the same old arguements seem to be churned out time after time, whenever Boinc/Seti is not working quite as it should.

I, like Paul D Buck, think of myself as being reasonably neutral, but i probably lean slightly to the cheerleader camp, as I tend to think "Oh, well, it will sort itself out eventually". (BTW, I called the "other" camp the Naysayers, I have also seen "Doomsayers" mentioned.)

I only started Seti/BOINC quite recently, and was not involved with Seti Classic, so I really had no expectations one way or another. From my point of view, I think it works quite well, if you look at it long-term, and not short-term. The short-term problems DO get sorted in time. I'm still processing WU's, have no problems with UL/DL, and are getting credits, albeit for work done over a week ago.

I know I have said some of this stuff before, but as I said at the start of this post, the same questions/arguements do seem to come around on this board...

Dec.

edit...
we just need Fuzzy to post next, and this will start to look like a Cat-Fanciers Club!

I know this stinks, but it was the first name I thought of for the third group. "the Bad News Bears".

[edit] after all, they're always huddled around the trash.

I called them antagonists some time ago. ;)
I've also seen "the Naysayers".

Anyway, sure you want to have them bears in a thread about brewing? Before the other person comes in opening yet another bear. ;)

For those who know their Old Testament, I think "Jeremiahs" would also be good - wasn't he a prophet of Doom?

Indeed,

And we've even had "Old Nick" prophesising himself and giving us a good stirring on "Intelligent Design (Review)"...

Mr NC looks to have quite an old crony clique over on s@h-classic DESIGN REVIEW... also.

Call 'em The Old Nicks?

All good fun,

Cheers,

Hmm...I have noticed that people seem to be getting ever angrier and almost violent as this backlog continues. ...

The "Tech News" author has made a beautifully careful and thorough description there (August 22, 2005 - 18:00 UTC). All in very readable terms for the "not-so-techy". Looks like the Devs very definitely keep an interest in all the users and respond to peoples' perceptions and passions.
Hopefully, the clear information will allow people to relax a little amidst all the FUDD.
Happy crunchin',
Martin

SETI did indeed give a great and clear explanation. As long as I get something like that, be it good news or bad, I am a happy camper. To make me a really happy camper, I hope that after the outages and validations are over, SETI gives a progress report on how the migration is coming or news if it is stalled.

Hi

Possible there are 6 groups.

I´m a mix with 1 and 5.

So many outages where on classic in the past.
The longest i remember was over one week.
Nothing is realy shocking me.

greetz Mike

So what triggered Shaun? I've never read such a weird post. Maybe that pseudo-doc on the other threads makes house calls?

lol! What triggered me? Nothing triggered me. Just making an observation. Since I've long run out of units to crunch I had to do something. So I made a useless post that made little or no sense. Besides, I don't really care about flamers, or spammers, or morons. It's not my place to care. Hell, if I did, I would have left long ago. Besides, the seti boards are pretty darn tame compared to other places I've posted.

Perhaps we're all just (and :) ) seriously passionate here!

No anger necessary.

Have fun,

Hm, there is no use getting angry.

I feel more sarcastic than upset really.

My WUs are finished and done, and I can't get more ATM.

So I have just switched over to classic mean while...

And as I starting to realize the seriousness of this particular outage,
as it is very unusually long, I have for the first time run out of WUs
and by the pace they are validating the WUs now (~7216 WUs per hour)
they will be done this time next week. (exactly 7 days from now.)

I'm really starting to worry about if they will be able to fix this at all

I won't repost the news as it has been posted on several other threads, but they're projecting tomorrow morning.

Note that the "antique deleters" have been competing with the validators, and that should be through just about now....

I'm a christened cheerleader, just a silent one, or I email those concerned directly. No sense in stirring up the crap, I'm here to have fun boincing, and boy do I love to boinc!

Hmm...I have noticed that people seem to be getting ever angrier and almost violent as this backlog continues. I ain't no peace lover. But, when has a million people yelling over one another ever led to a decent solution. It doesn't...ever. I don't really give a crap if this causes anyone to flame me, but all of us really need to calm down. The ONLY people who really should have a big problem with the backlog are those who are spending large amounts of money to keep the program running. As it has been said before. The backlog will clear. It's going to clear whenever it can. It's going to clear whether or not people yell and scream. There's no reason to be calling anyone morons, or ridiculing actual 'useful' suggestions. FLAME AWAY! I'd like to know how many people are sick of the attitudes here. And yes, I know I can leave if I don't like it. But, I'm not going to leave and none of you are going to make me. What's everyones opinion? Open the gates! I'm here to STAY!

I'm also tired of reading all kind of insults.
If someone say: "hey, is not working" the other jump and say: "hey, shut up you !@%@#$!&*^"

I came over to the forums today to see why if the validators are running in catch up mode, my validated WU's havent changed since atleast yesterday morning. Not coming to complain, only looking for information.

Now at the risk of sounding the hippocrit. What we have here is in all essence a fire and forget program. A program that in reality has less need of the user to do anything with than a print spooler. We have all volunteered to the use of our processors to this worthy endevour, and good on us all for that. However just because we volunteer does not immeadiatly imply that we will be selected to help. Letting ourselves get spun up over the fact that we arent processing or seeing the results returned to us is about as silly as getting upset with your neighbor asking if he can try out his new lawn mower and cut your grass for you.

Step back and realize we are here at our own volition, can leave at our own volition, and are running a program whose only return result to the user is seeing a few numbers printed on a screen.
