Personal background
I live in Oxfordshire, England.
I work in a garage, selling car parts.

It's mundane and not that interesting, but it pays the bills.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I would love to find out that we are not alone in the Universe, as it would be such a waste of all that huge amount of 'the rest of the universe', if we were alone.

We can not be alone.

There is so much of 'the universe' out there, that while the odds of life happening, on any one planet/star system may be very small, the universe is so big, that it must have happened in places other than on our planet.

Will we detect signs of life else-where? Yes, I believe so.

Perhaps not in my life time, or the next, but one day we will.

Can we talk back?

Doubtful, if not impossible.

The time taken for the message to get to us, and the reply to get back makes it unlikely that a conversation can be held, even if we spoke the language. When each message takes 100,000's of years, we are unlikely to be able to establish 2 way communication.

However if the message is simple, "1, 3, 5, 7, 13, 23" etc, just a list of prime numbers, then we will understand. It's a cosmic 'we were here.'

That was all the message was meant to say, and all that it meant to convey. They said "we existed" and we heard it.

That's why I do seti. They are out there, I have faith. But it would be nice to have proof.
