Okay, enough is enough. I hear about and see posts constantly about that “evil” SETI Classic. It’s gotten to where certain people from the BOINC boards have gone from just griping about it, to actually making personal insults about Classic users, and spamming people trying to get them to fully commit to BOINC. I don’t know what their problem is, and I really don’t care. But the fact is, if BOINC was ready to fully replace Classic, it would have happened. And all the pissing and moaning isn’t going to make it happen faster. As for me, I’m looking forward to it, I’ve got plans for my farm to be used on BOINC with a different OS. These issues are the reason for this post and the fallowing is the remedy.

If you are one of those who are here on these boards to share your enthusiasm and in the sport side of the SETI project and are sick and tired of the backbiting and witch-hunts, I have an offer you may want to consider. I, and at this point, sixty-one other people are at a new forum you might have heard of. If you haven’t been there, it’s not tied to a certain team. As a matter of fact, several members belong to different teams. A few don’t even participate in SETI, but find the atmosphere welcoming. A basic membership is free; a twelve-dollar (US) fee will get you the ability to post in full HTML and other benefits, too. You can even offer help in fine-tuning the forum or even financialy, some have and it’s lookin’ hot. Of course, there is no reason to completely write off these boards and continuing visiting them, but a little extra variety doesn't hurt.

Yeah, me too. Actually, I find it kind of fun, maybe that's the evil part.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone call it "evil".

Nowt wrong with classic. I classiced for a while. Now I boinc.

Perhaps the reason some Boinc'ers want classic to close is so that the hardware classic uses can move to Boinc...

After all, Classics's days are numbered. Win 3.11 has had it's days, 95 is almost dead, and 98 will follow soon...

But I don't Diss anyone who liked the old stuff. It was good at the time. Hell, some old stuff is still good.

Live long, and crunch!

I'm going to guess that everyone here got their start on "Classic". So I have some doubts about it being "evil". Is it time to move on, that is the question.

There is a case for "moving on", and there is a case for keeping classic going. I'll stop here for now (this horse has been riden into the ground and kicked so much it looks like hamburger). Truthfully, both sides are very dedicated to their client (zealots even).

Matt has actually explained here what's going on in Classic and why it hasn't been closed down!

I had noticed that before, but data can be extracted post-mortium (sorry if that sounds like second guessing the DevTeam). Anyway, I was talking about on a long term basis (ie more than a year, I should have made that distinction).

So raise a glass (or coffee cup), to all who run seti (in either form) and a toast for the Team who keep this makeshift raft afloat.

classic seti is not evil...boinc seti is not evil...but the polarization that has developed between the two groups is disturbing...i enjoyed being a part of seti classic...as did most people who are here at seti boinc...but now i'm enjoying the boinc experience too...it's different for sure...and probably not for everybody...but then what is?...change can be painful...but in the end...change can also be good...that is, if you give it a chance...meanwhile...let those who want to keep crunching classic enjoy these final days of it's existence...alot has been accomplished by the original seti...so i'm going to remember seti classic with honor...and i also honor those who are staying at classic till the end...there is much more to be done...work that will be done on the new BOINC platform...and this work may turn out to be important in ways that we won't understand until later...i hope both groups can find a way to do this work...together.
