As long as you don't mind attacking a little grey plastic box that has two antennas sticking out of the top, Oh, I can hear it screaming in pain already! LOL :)

To be honest though, sometimes it's useful to have a reminder of ones IP address, but, I dare say that most folk don't want it preverbialy 'ramming down their throats' every time they see a BB posting, and for anyone that needs to know, they usually know how to find out their own IP, external internet facing or otherwise.

See http://www.danasoft.com/ and you'll find how. In reality he doesn't know your IP# or ISP, but danasoft can have. I found it today looking at the source of this page :)

But if you put your pictures on your own http server or use a web service whose log you can see (for example, google with cpanel and web and host, and you'll find many) and put the links in your signature or your post, you can have IP#'s of people in the log file who have seen your pictures.

It looks so insecure, but it's safer than you imagine, IMHO. When I was running my own http server on my Linux box, I saw many attacks in the log file, code red, badtrans, etc. etc. probably attacking random IP addresses, because they were from similar IP addresses to mine...but all failed. And afaik I have had no intentional human attack.

Just use Adblock to kill everything from that site. ;P

Neener, neener, neener.... I'm still not using Firefox on this Unix box. I am, however, using Mozilla 5 and it just happens to have a setting to block images from specific sites. I just found it and set it NOT to display those damned danasoft.com, "slap you in the face with your IP address" signs. >:-) (-:<

Errm, Adblock from mozdev is for both Mozilla Suite and Firefox. Just hit upon the Adblock 0.5 d2 nightly 39 file and install it, close down Mozilla and restart it. You'll now have Adblock in the lower right corner of Moz, plus an entry under the Tools menu.

Was going to mention that Siran; I think there is an equivalent function in internet exploder.
Another way for the more technically minded to try is to put the following entry in your hosts file, followed a CR (new line) '127.0.0.1 www.danasoft.com'. The gap between the number and the url is a tab character, the entry must be followed by a new line.
Once done anything that trys to load anything, from anywhere on the danasoft website, is looked up instantly on localhost, which doesn't have the requested info, so localhost instantly returns a 404, or broken picture error.

Ta ta, Ken P.

Its hardly being rammed down ones throat, its a few small numbers in a picture, were it a flashing banner occupying large amounts of the screen denying ones using of other services then i might see your point.

I don't agree with you, Simonator. I actually use the Danasoft site myself to see my own IP as I get a dynamic IP (which had been quite usefull in a situation I was in recently!), even it's not that dynamic, I found out!

But these figures are annoying and see them in every post you and others do is extremely annoying. Just my oppinion! So I have blocked yours and others out with Adblock. Plus some of the most ugly sigs and other pics people enjoy to have as their sig. (I still see your sig though! :-) )

Ah yes, but we don't use that in our sigs so much. Thinking about it, I don't even use a sig pic here. Where did I leave that 1 GB signature, hi-res MSN video extra quality badathingy?

Sorry Tetsuji. I was making a joke from NeoAmsterdams post. I know how the Danasoft sigs work. NA had just made a post asking what was wrong with putting your IP in his sig. From his sig: Your IP address is 127.0.0.1. It was an attempt at humor that he knew my localhost address. I did put a winking smiley, ;) to denote a joke, but I guess I should have been more obvious.

There is an easier way. There is a Firefox extension called ShowIP that sits in the browsers status bar that will show the IP of the website you're visiting. Left clicking gives some DNS tools such as traceroute and whois. If you mouseover the site IP address, it will show you your current local IP, so you can see your IP in a second. :)
