If you can't sleep after an espresso you just aren't tired enough...

One of my furballs, William, seems to have a Raccoon's black mask across his eyes. But as he is a black-and-white Shih-Tzu, and his head is black, his eyes disappear.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Nice to see you up and about, John.
Glad you are enjoying the company of your furballs.

Better yet: If you can't sleep after an expresso, just don't drink any.

I tried Máte once - with breakfast. I still had what felt like caffeine jitters at midnight. OK, I tried it. Once was enough though.

I have a pretty high tolerance for caffeine. So sometimes that last cup in the evening actually DOES put me to sleep.

We had two raccons this morning. One on the ground, and one in the tree. The one in the tree stayed for 30 minutes. There is feeder damage.

There's always damage from raccoons LOL. Unless you of course put everything out on a silver platter for them like some people we know. ;-)

Hope all is well your way Steve, nice to see your critters.

(I started getting my server ready for webcam use, perhaps in time I'll get a night vision camera up in my yard, and setup some motion capturing software.)

This is the camera I use. It was $350, two years ago. It works great, uses house wiring, and you can add more cameras.

Nice camera Steve, I have a USB based camera, but outside of the driver, I have no motion capture software, plus the side of the house I'd want to put it on is on the opposite side of where I park the PC.

That's £225. Could you not use a webcam looking through the window. Some of their software uses motion capture?

Typical motion capture doesn't work well, if at all through a window. There are some nice advantages with the one I have. It automatically switches from day to infrared at night. It plugs into house wiring without having to run extra wires. It is an HD camera. It is weather proof, and well suited to the temperature range it can experience in my front yard. I can control it via the web. I can take stills, or it automatically takes movies when triggered. I can zoom it or out digitally, and can point it digitally within it's field of view.

I did buy a huge infrared illuminator that I haven't installed yet, but it would turn my front yard into daylight in the middle of the night, and the animals won't be able to see it. I might be able to get the infrared illuminator installed next week.

Either way, I am delighted to finally have raccoons visiting me when they feel like it. I didn't know raccoons were so fond of bird seed. That guy in the tree darn near cleaned out an entire tube of seed.

Well I can't use that system, as I have no outlet on the car side of the house and it gets wet even under the car port... So I'll stick to what I can do.

I have discovered that raccoons like hot dogs. We put a few out last night, and they both came back and ate them. We had cat food set out as well.

Here is a treat.

Have a large bowl of water handy.
Leave a plate with a few sugar cubes on it.

I have been told that raccoons that have never had a sugar cube will wash the first (and only the first) one.

OK folks our critters have arrived.

This is Minky a 1 year old boy ferret.

And this is Mousey a 2year old girl ferret.

Minky was mistreated by his previous owners boyfriend who made her get rid of them. He is a bit scared of men so he bit me a couple of times (and man does it hurt) but will settle down with some kind treatment.
Mousey is just adorably cute.

Don't stick 'em down your trousers, ee bah gum lad!

One did try running up my trouser leg. Lucky I was kneeling on the floor so it couldn't get too far.
