Scientists toes are a really good raccoon attractant (the smellier the better).

A raccoon has shown up again. I haven't seen the raccoon eat the grapes or watermellon, but one has been clibbing the bird feeder tree, and sniffing all around. I think they will keep coming here, as I won't let the food supply dry up. There was a segment where my webcam wasn't working as it should. A software and firmware update seemed to have fixed it. The chickens, and other birds devoured the watermellon in a couple of hours. It was fun to watch them do it.

Eric took this picture of a little visitor we had in our garden this weekend.

It is a gopher snake, about 3 feet long. This must have been a young one, because Eric said they can get up to 8 feet long. We have a lot of lizards around, so I'm pretty sure that is what this little guy eats. Sadly gopher snakes did not get that name from eating pocket gophers (of which I have PLENTY!!!!!) They are called gopher snakes because they like to hang out in gopher tunnels. Rats! Looks like my pocket gophers will have another summer of treating my garden like their own personal farmers market.

Yo Steve-oh! Do I get my herpetology badge now?

those things will eat rodents, ground nesting birds, baby raccoons..

I stepped on one once... about 6 ft... scared the beerjeebers out of me!!

It "hit" my ankle after I did.. I had to check for bite marks... nothing visible and it was only then we figured out it was probably not a rattler.

Markings are similar(head slightly different) and when it is dancing around your feet... kinda hard to tell!!

Very good! You have the identification correct. They will consume small rodents, and are harmless to humans. Cool picture! You get the herpetolory badge. I am still working on the raccoon badge. :D

Actually Angela according to the wiki, they do like to eat Pocket Gophers...

If the snake is living in a gopher tunnel, there won't be any gophers in that tunnel anyway.

We are lucky to not have any rats here; I expect that snake would have a right effective mouthful of teeth. If you get bit don’t forget the soap and water.
We are right on the northern range of the prairie rattler. I have never seen one in our town.

It looks like it is moving around, and might be hunting.

5 videos of cats that love water

Doesn't look too happy to Me, but cats are cats.

lol. Our kitty had a misadventure a while ago where she got her poo stuck to her fur and was skidding around the apartment on her backside trying to get it off.

As you can imagine panic ensued as we tried to clean her up. My partner was attempting to cut the soiled fur away, but it was too big a job so I told him to fill the sink and we would have to wash it out.

Poor kitty, in preparation for the expected freak out I wrapped her securely in a towel so she couldn't claw my eyes out and I dunked her carefully into some luck warm water. However, kitty just went limp and resigned herself to being washed. In fact she seemed to quite like it and we got her cleaned up very quickly. I've never had a cat before that would allow me to dunk it in a sink full of water.

I've had to give my elder Squirrel a sitz bath once or twice when she got a case of poopy butt.
Lots of meowling, but she took it long enough to clean her up.

Most kitties just don't like baths...

ROFL.

And I've given several-a-kitty baths in my time. Some cats are ok, some are NOT! hahaha.

And, about snakes. Even "harmless" ones can draw a hell of a lot of blood, been there done that. :-)

My kitties often give me baths of affection when I go to sleeps with them at night....

I don't ask where Purrball's tongue has last been when she nibbles my nose.....
It goes with the part and parcel of kitty love.

Same with my dog. My wifey always looks at me with humorous disgust, I just explain to her that my Maggie's tongue is cleaner than hers. :-)
