I've never had to do a tax return. The government always took it straight out of my wages.

I'm "lucky" like that too. I don't get to see half my salary because our Government have widdled it up the wall before it's given to me :(

Same here Andy. Except perhaps not half... more 33% - to be 30% soon with John Key in power.

I "just" got into the 40% tax bracket before I retired, then wished I hadn't .....

I'm there - it's pointless working hard to achieve it isn't it? I was so annoyed when I saw my first 40% taxed pay packet, grrrr! So many dossers in this country that don't work and I felt like I was singlehandedly paying to keep them LOL.

edit - not to mention the National Insurance deductions and the Value Added Tax when I dare to spend anything that is left!

If it makes you feel better you can think of all your taxes going to pay all the tax credits I got for being a hard working single mum.

You've helped raise my kids. :D

Good morning friends! Victor, I think the world would be a happier place if we all had a little bit of Christmas in our hearts every day. Sciurus, Eric feels your pain. He started working on our taxes this weekend too. He gets to count such manly endeavors as "his share of the housework" and I completely agree!!!

Thanks Angela, Me I know about house work, Just when You think You can relax for a bit, Then the place needs some more. I take It Eric is a really busy guy, I used to do Moms taxes and yeah Mine too, But then I was cheaper than H&R Block. :D

Today the guys from Brent's Mobilehome Specialties are supposed to be back to finish the work on the car port repairs, They had to take a column away cause half of It was flattened, It wasn't secured to the concrete too well anyway as one of the guys just pulled It away from the concrete, So the carport now rests on 2 columns instead of 3 for the moment and their going to bring some foam around to try and deal with the last of the birds too. I like the birds, I just don't like the mess on My car that the birds leave.

The RCA 1450 antenna is really weak as It has trouble with weak translator TV signals and I'm about 3-3.5 miles away from where those signals originate at, But for the moment It will do, Later a better Amplifier(Motorola), Cables(Channel Master) & a Winegard SS-1000 Squareshooter(16"x16"x4") UHF antenna(In some areas It could pick up channels 7-13 on VHF, But this is not guaranteed), Mounted near the roof peak should give Me an excellent picture, Even when a School Bus is nearby. :D

Not according to what I read, there won't be enough of them. It will be like 40% of the country paying for the 60% retired.

Let me guess..Daily Mail?

Dark days lie ahead for our kids. Especially in America - but the politicians won't talk about it, because who's funding these elections? Baby Boomers!

Medicare, Medicaid & Social security already takes up 40% of USA's budget - in the next 20 years that's predicted to DOUBLE.

That's below the belt, true, but below the belt ;-)

Probably right next to an article about how asylum seekers give people cancer :P

Let's hope there is enough immigration to pay for your pension then.

In for a late morning win.

Ugh, have to do my taxes today. I've put this off for three months now and there due this week. No refund for me, I'm still paying on taxes owed from 2008.

I hope someone enjoys the new flat screen TV they get with my refund. Gotta spread the wealth..

I have the same task today. the fact that 47 out of 100 of my citizen peers don't pay anything at all doesn't make this task any easier.

Perhaps we can get a few of these good fellows to make a comment here. Get out the kleenix because I'm sure there are more than a few sad stories to hear, explaining why they can take our money through government confiscation and at the same time cancel our vote so we have no say in this mess.

I'll bitch about it but taxes are a necessity to keep this country going.

I usually get a refund but in 2008 I lost a serious amount of money in stocks, which were supposed to be my retirement someday. I withdrew everything that was left and I'm still paying taxes and penalties for cashing in my own retirement. How cruel is that? lol

I have 19 years to go. That's if I live that long and it's doubtful.

Uh, you mean you didn't just sell them but keep the cash in the plan?

In any case I avoided the bank stocks and I'm actually ahead of where I was before the crash. You have to watch out for the companies that have profits that rise faster than the population. That's not sustainable long term.

Hit the mail yesterday. Of course some years it has been September. Royal PITA when a company that sends you a form you need to file your taxes files for an extension ... and you know you are due a refund ...

In any case, everyone please enjoy form 6251: The Robin Hood tax.

That happened to me in 2000, 2001 I think. I was really counting on it to get some bills payed off. I had to get a loan and my refund payed that off. Minus a boat load of interest..

Nope, my company decided to drop Morgan Stanley because our employees lost aprox one million in stocks. I had the choice to transfer it to another simple IRA account but chose to take the cash. Stupid yes, but I needed the money to survive at the time and now I'm paying for it.

2 years ago for me, and I still pay 20% tax.

At least I don't get stuffed by the additional 11.5% tax the UK Labour Government steals, to bring the basic tax rate to 31.5%. They call this tax NIC.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues
