There are so many books out there just begging to be made into films, why does Fox have to remake a classic? Why not film Joe Haldeman's,"Forever Wars"? Or "Alfred Bester's "The Stars My Destination"? Or Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendezvous With Rama"? Or "Childhood's End"? Or the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson? Or quit stalling Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" as a movie?

..........or Issac Asimov's "Foundation" Series. Now that would make an interesting series of films!

What all of them including the extras published after the Good Dr died you know I can see them doing it .....NOT!!!!!!

I won't bother seeing the film and nor will I buy the Blu-Ray or DVD. The original film, whilst covertly sniping at the arms race, was superbly crafted - whilst the new version will probably attempt to dazzle with lots of SFX. Lets face it, remaking a good 'classic' film is merely an excuse for a lack of creative imagination. What next? Casablanca, Henry V (the 5th), or, Its a Wonderful Life?

For this reason, I sincerely hope that Forbidden Planet is left alone - even now, yaers after I first saw that film, it still prompts my imagination. For what it is worth, I thought the last version of The War of the Worlds, was truly dreadful, but then, when I saw the 1953 (?) version, I was only slightly disappointed, having read the book.

Perhaps the trouble with these re-makes, is that they either, deviate too radically from the original film/book in it's presentation, or, it becomes unrecognisable as either the film/book.

And from the Trailers I saw of this new movie, It sounds like It went from Cold War to an Earth First Terrorist alignment and so It's not a movie I want or would pay to see, Ever.

I'm personally a fan of Keanu, regardless of what people say about his acting. The Matrix is still my favorite movie of all time.

I'm going to see TDESS tomorrow barring any unforeseen circumstances. Like Joker, I'm not a big fan of movies that prefer to show humans as the only problem on Earth (much like The Happening, which is my Worse Movie In Recent Memory), but I'm interested to see how this turns out.

The Happening was rather disappointing.......the premise was good, but the overall impact and ending was a letdown....

The actor stars in the sci-fi movie 'The Day The Earth Stood Still', and the filming experience left him wondering about alien beings.

He says,

"I've met people who have seen UFOs but I don't know anyone who has been abducted. How could there not be life on other planets? The universe is so vast.

"I guess a lot of people won't believe in extraterrestrial life until they see evidence, until an alien lands in Central Park like my character does in the film, but the idea that life doesn't exist anywhere but here is crazy."

There's a reason for that. Many great movies have a special place in our hearts and minds, and any change to the original is usually considered a bastardization of the original artwork. Very infrequently, if at all, can a duplicate or remake ever be held with such admiration as the original when the original gets to set the precedence.

In point of fact, I don't think I've seen a remake that I have liked better than the original. The only remake that I've liked separate from the original was Time Machine (2000).

And lets not forget if a movie was adapted from a book. I really enjoyed the Lord of the Rings movies but the book purists tended to dislike it. I've never read them. But I've seen the previous animated movies and those sucked.

Watched "The Day The Earth Stood Still" last night, and really enjoyed it.

Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal went together well, and it was a classic "perils of war" story for the Post-WWII era.

Been a while since I'd seen it.
