The original is an EXCELLENT film!
Here it is streaming on Veoh.com

Thanks for posting that link, watching it now. [edit] I only got 5 minutes of the movie, I'm going to bed [/edit]

unrelated at the quotee -- I think the Terminator TV series Rocks (especially the female protector model). Is the red head actress that is in the new year the singer from the band Garbage?

[off-topic] per se

. . . [Talkin' to myself ;) sayin'] - 'gotta remember to add note to script schedule'

@ Paul [Pawly] quote:

That's because Hollywood only remakes movies that are already great.

. . . have-ta remark on the 'Remakes' part - that's THEM - not me: on the Re-Script / Re-Make of 'It All Came True' [mine]

there was a value and IS a value in the remake of an ol' Bogart Film . . .

> Warner Bros. made a decision - back then [1940'ish] to NEVER do 'Low-Budget' Films again,

even had a shoot @ a Famous Hollywood gravesite with the Final Note / Stone regarding the 'End to Low-Budget' . . .

well, i am still re-scriptin' and shall do this Film and it'll be BIG To say the least . . .

I have no hopes for this as a film. It can't hold a candle to the timeless original. Call it something else, but don't call it "Day the Earth Stood Still."

How about "The Day I Downloaded Another Torrent"?

I wish you all the luck in getting it made Richard. You would think after all this time that Hollywood would realize that substance wins the test of time over showmanship. Quality film making beats big budgets any day.
If anyone wants proof, watch "El Mariachi" , the predecessor to "Desperado". Made by, then struggling, director Robert Rodriguez utilizing friends, family and acquaintances and shot ENTIRELY ON ONE CAMERA. BRILLIANT!!

~ off topiC ~ [kind-of ;)]

. . . @ Paul - no problem with the 'making' of mi film - the $$$$$$$$$ is already set for the entire Production

all i have to do is 'finish' the re-script [10 years so far] ;)) everybody involved hasn't got any problem w/ mi timin' - because they know it'll be finished when it's finished ;))

and, since it's Foundation is based on the 'Story of My Life - Autobiographical'

- it's an on-goin' process figurin' 'when i shall place the finale'

and - in endin' - Anything Hollywood does - does NOT effect mi ;))

Note to Myself: remember new entree

. . . to Paul - again - regarding Robert's 'el Mariachi' - one can learn a heck of a lot from Mr. Rodriguez - to say the least ;) Thanks btw Sir!

What no one's interested in Recall not Earth?

It has sabotage, spying, Incredibly ancient technology, space battles, alien species(Both good and bad)[Hohd(Good), the Vulmotie[the Vuls](very Bad, tried to exterminate Humanity from space) and the enslaved Chelki[enslaved by the Vuls](Four footed furry aliens with double jointed hands and a long neck that come up out of the middle of the bodies top side(maybe Ugly to some, But very Good)), Ships that go fast and have to charge up their Mass drives(to repel Mass or to lessen the effect of Mass on a nearby ship as the ship rises or falls in an atmosphere, In the book Mass is attracted to Mass and Gravity is an artifact of Mass(Like a planet or a star)) Mass shields act as drive systems and there are what amounts to space fold systems to go between solar systems or just to empty space, Of course there are Mass detectors and some are more advanced and more accurate than contemporary systems in the book.

. . . Joker - i [personaly] 'ave mi 'hand's full' - though, when i am finished w/ mi script - i will look into iT seriously

note: remember to buy the book neXt week . . .

The Singularity is Near by Ray Kurzweil

Renowned inventor Kurzweil may be technology's most credibly hyperbolic optimist.

Elsewhere he has argued that eliminating fat intake can prevent cancer; here, his

quarry is the future of consciousness and intelligence.

Humankind, it runs, is at the threshold of an epoch . . .

["the singularity," a reference to the theoretical limitlessness of exponential expansion]

that will see the merging of our biology with the staggering achievements of "GNR"

[genetics, nanotechnology and robotics] to create a species of unrecognizably

high intelligence, durability, comprehension, memory and so on.

. . . he examines the next step in this inexorable evolutionary process: the union of human and machine,

in which the knowledge and skills embedded in our brains will be combined with the vastly greater capacity,

speed, and knowledge-sharing ability of our creations.

Wow, thanks Carlos. Did some surfing & came up with this....Foundation on Big Screen.

Unfortunately, I agree with the many comments made on the site, the trilogy is just too complex to cut down to a couple of hours worth of film. It would be better if they produced a mini-series similar to "V".

Also, sorely tempted to see Day the Earth Stood Still at the cinema tomorrow rather than wait for the DVD.

There are so many books out there just begging to be made into films, why does Fox have to remake a classic? Why not film Joe Haldeman's,"Forever Wars"? Or "Alfred Bester's "The Stars My Destination"? Or Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendezvous With Rama"? Or "Childhood's End"? Or the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson? Or quit stalling Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" as a movie?

What all of them including the extras published after the Good Dr died you know I can see them doing it .....NOT!!!!!!

I won't bother seeing the film and nor will I buy the Blu-Ray or DVD. The original film, whilst covertly sniping at the arms race, was superbly crafted - whilst the new version will probably attempt to dazzle with lots of SFX. Lets face it, remaking a good 'classic' film is merely an excuse for a lack of creative imagination. What next? Casablanca, Henry V (the 5th), or, Its a Wonderful Life?

For this reason, I sincerely hope that Forbidden Planet is left alone - even now, yaers after I first saw that film, it still prompts my imagination. For what it is worth, I thought the last version of The War of the Worlds, was truly dreadful, but then, when I saw the 1953 (?) version, I was only slightly disappointed, having read the book.

Perhaps the trouble with these re-makes, is that they either, deviate too radically from the original film/book in it's presentation, or, it becomes unrecognisable as either the film/book.

Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive!
