Okay, first of all, forgive me for posting this here. I would have sent it direct to the powers that be, but I couldn't find a contact for them. If it's here, however, I'm certain that it'll find its way into the right hands. At the very least, it's something I think folks here should be aware of.

I run a website. I have an e-mail contact form on it that sends me a specially flagged e-mail to the admin account, for sending comments. Within the last few weeks, I've been getting spam through the contact form rather than directly to the address. Initially, I just found this a new and annoying way of getting ED drugs advertised at me, but then I actually read the message...

I've received other similar mails, where the "message" and the sending address are different, but the URLs are the same. I've checked the account profiles, and of course, they have no credits, and they're certainly no credit to SETI.

I'd ask anyone with the admin's e-mail address to fire this along to them. They need to know pronto. Cheers.

Perhaps account creation should include a "enter the numbers shown above" type of test.

Many sites do this to reduce/eliminate spam.

The way things are now, any script kiddie could create 1000s of accounts. Making it required to identify a low quality graphic representation would take creating an account automatically into the realm of supercomputers, or perhaps a BOINC project.

Worst case is that they wait for a week or two to create a profile - this should give them time to think about it.

Captchas are becomming less and less useful as the spammers generate code that is better and better at reading harder and harder text.

Right.... I get enough of this crap in my email. My spam blocker takes care of most of it, but sometimes the spam blocker knocks out important stuff that I want. It's sickening to know that society has come to this.......

When I got the message from him, in my inbox and in the message, his user name had the little head in profile icon beside it indicating he had a profile, although I couldn't get to it when I clicked on the icon.
