Message 422987 - Posted: 18 Sep 2006, 20:19:25 UTC - in response to Message 422981.

Our President can only stay in office for 4 years per term, and a maximum of two terms for a total of eight years.

Except during times of war...

Does the war on terror fit the bill? How about the war in Iraq?

Maybe, maybe not... Only time will tell... But I'm sure the card will be played... ;)

Nope even in a time of war the Maximum is 2 terms.

That's not entirely true, CA.

If he were to go so far as to declare a state of Martial Law, he could remain in power indefinitely.

There's something for good nightmares.

Watch it....I am the only real knightmare around these parts.

OH!!!! NIGHTMARES!!! Yeah, you aren't kidding. Him staying in power beyond the next election is one of the most frightening things I have heard in a long time.

I thought of that but can the pres do that with out a vote in congress? and for how long?

Anyone here ever read Tom Clancy's Debt of Honor and Executive Orders? Where Jack Ryan becomes the President because just about everyone else is wiped out due to that Japanese 767 crashing into the Capitol?

I'm not sure, but I don't think he needs a vote in Congress to declare Martial Law. As far as how long...until he declares the threat to the country gone and lifts Martial Law.

Not to mention the fact that the USA has been feeding, clothing, and medicating the REST of the planet for the last 60 years. The UNited Kingdom, France, Spain, The Netherlands, Germany,Portugal and several other world powers at the time went about their merry way invading, and occupying a good portion of this planet for many centuries! Name ONE instance where the United States of America has wantonly invaded another nation for the sole purpose of occupation? Just one...How about never. It turns my stomach to listen to people rant about OUR standard of living. That is not only inappropriate, it's down right disgusting. We pour out our hearts, lives, pocketbooks to the rest of the world and all we get in return is a slap in the face. What really IS annoying is the fact that WE have people from nearly EVERY nation on earth living, working, visiting, and getting educated, HERE, in OUR country, while at the same time protesting our way of living...well, here's one Veteran that will NEVER apologize for the way I live to any other person on the face of this earth.

BIOMETRIC-IV

I too have nothing to apologize for in the way I live, and choose to live, in this wonderful and God Blessed Country. I join the ranks here, hand in hand as PROUD Citizens of these United States of America; "One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for ALL!"

8-D

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

<Sings>

God Bless America

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside Her, and guide Her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My Home Sweet Home.

We Brits are patriotic Susan. We protect our rights and our country by always questioning and standing up to our leaders. Remember..they are elected to serve us..not the other way around.

Sometimes I wonder about that. It seems it won't be long before the State becomes our master rather than our servant. Having said that, I'd better turn in for the night. I've just said goodnight to everybody else. See you tomorrow ES. I'm getting tired.

That time may be closer than you think, Susan.
Since "the war on terror" began, how much tighter have controls been on "Joe Average"? Attempts to instigate National ID cards, linked to massive databases, armed and unapproachable police in the streets, where once "Bobbies" would stroll, unarmed and approachable., etc, etc.
If I were a conspiracy theorist, I may consider the war on terror an excuse to increase power and tighten control of the "peasants".

I think it's a pefect excuse to extend control over people. I am not convinced that the terrorist threat is all it's cracked up to be. Yes, people have been bombed and lost their lives, in London as elswhere, due to suicide bombers, but we are not living life as if we are in the Blitz. I feel that at least some of these 'security' measures have been staged or embellished so that people feel they are in mortal danger.

I have only recently (last three months) spent much attention to these message boards. I have posted a few messages both instegating and answering and have found it to be a boys (and girls) club, where we all chat and congratulate each other on still being on line, as if that mattered! Some threads have relevance to the way the world world works and others leave me me breathless in their idiocy! To all people who are slaves to the internal combustion engine, plastic manufacturers, and all other deluded imbeciles who believe that oil is an infinite source and is worth fighting over, WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG, DONT YOU HAVE CHILDREN? How do you all think they and their descendants are going to see us?
Hello AMERICA - your nation is at war so it can put gas in your tanks! Hello UK, your nation is at war because Tony Blair likes to consort with half-witted clebrities, Bush being first amongst them!

Have we gotten any oil from them yet ? Hope we do, I got 6.5 MPG on my last tank. Viper
