I am currently trialling an LPG powered 6 cylinder Ford family sedan. It cost me US$27 to fill the tank.

How far can you go on a tank of that?

About 20 miles less than a tank of gasoline.....

Sounds like a great deal then.

Yeah. The only problem is (even though the LPG tanks are under the boot/trunk floor) the boot/trunk floor is higher than normal and there is only a space saving spare tyre which sits in the boot/trunk taking up room in the boot/trunk, which leaves the usable boot/trunk space a lot less than you'd like. Like you can't fit 2 sets of golf clubs in the boot/trunk.....

Yesterday I filled my tank in London with 12 US gallons of Shell Premium.
Cost was US$7.3558 per US Gallon
Total for filling $ 88.27
[edit] ... on 29 July price was $7.07 per US Gallon - a rise of $0.2858 cents in just over 2 weeks.
Enough to bring tears to your eyes.

In that the greatest bulk of our oil comes from the Middle East, you can imagine what the Iraq situation is doing to us here. Iran is threatening to cut down supply now ... so we are between a rock and a VERY hard place.

Was in Sacramento California today, just got home, saw an ARCO station, with a gas price for the cheap stuff, at $2.93/gallon. It finally went down to $2.99/gallon here in Reno.

Within reason it is not the price of fuel that is important, it is the miles per gallon that the vehicle gives.

A car that does 20 mpg means fuel costs are important. A car that does 65 mpg means fuel price is less important.

There is an assumption that the performance envelope of the car is similar whether it does 20 mpg or 65 mpg. This is possible, and not via the Japanese petrol-electric hybrids. That is in real world motoring.

The important cost of fuel to concentrate on is the price per mile it costs to run the vehicle!!

Example - cost of fuel $3.00 per gallon ...

Car doing an average of 20 mpg costs = 300 c/20 = 15 cents per mile to run

Car doing an average of 65 mpg costs = 300 c/65 = 4.6 cents per mile to run

NOTE: I Europe we can buy vehicles that will average over 100 mpg if driven carefully at the posted speed limits.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

My 1996 Rolls Royce does 8 - 10 mpg in town, 15 - 18 mpg in the country

My Mercedes Town Car (C240) does a posted 24 - 30 mpg in all conditions

With the greatest of respect, cost of filling the tank IS important!!!!! ('specially at £1.04 a litre!)

Atlanta, GA. Price is free here when you syphon it out of your neighbors car. Please don't tell anyone as I'm sure they wouldn't find it to be very 'Noodly'.

Leaves an awful taste in the mouth though.

The provincial government recently brought in price regulation on gasoline three weeks ago. It went down 12 cents last week and another 10 cents today. Current price/litre is $1.12 CAD or about a buck a litre USD.
