Message 256056 - Posted: 2 Mar 2006, 5:07:28 UTC - in response to Message 256055.

I got plenty of uFluids and Einstein units to crunch instead.

I just picked up some Einstein for one of my boxes to get me through 'till tomorrow night.

SETI was only using about 20% of the time on my machines (4 other programs also running) so the others just picked up the slack.

I was running the cache dry on one of my comps in preparation to install optimization for BETA...but i'm not gonna get to that until tomorrow...so i topped off the tank with some Einstein...I haven't gotten 'round to adding my other projects to my new computer yet...but it still has 2 days of SETI in the tank.

Eat your hearts out, I scheduled my Seti prefs for 10 days cache...200 maxed out limit in the cache on all hosts (except my laptop which had its' HD give up the ghost).

Account frozen...

Hi Jim :-)

Thanks. And I think I'll join Misfit in getting drunk tonight

Yes, I could certainly need some drinks here.

Things are hopefully getting back to normal again soon.

Might I join yall on a drunk? I could use one. ;-]

Yeah sure.

BTW, have anybody figured out where the Captain has hid Rocky's Jack Daniels?

Hi Fuzzy! I hope you had a good rest after you finished cleaning your mother's apartment. You deserve a good rest now. Let's hope you and your brother get a good price for the apartment! Now you can go down memory lane with the photo albums and stuff. That'll be fun, I'm sure. :)

It's good to be home. I'm just glad we missed the Blizzard of '06. And after peeking in on our laptop a few times, also glad we missed the TROLL war of '06.

Don't know how much I've been contributing to these message boards, but if anybody has been following, then this is to let them know that yesterday I received approval from the Institutional Review Board to start my pilot study towards my dissertation in mathematics education. (That was one long sentence!) So, if things go as planned, beginning in about 1.5 weeks I'll be very busy and not showing up here as much.

BTW, Institutional Review Board is a group that makes sure research conducted with human subjects is ethical, that the subjects' privacy is maintained, etc. ... .

Thanks Prognatus.

Alas, my mother lived in a rented appartment, so there's no money to get from selling.

I don't know how fun it will be to look through the old photos, because then you really feel that a door to a room in your life has been shut and locked, and the key has been thown away, so you can never enter this room again.

So when I see old photos of my mother's and father's family, I can't ask anybody, who they were. My dad had a lot of photos; he was a member of a photoclub and was a pretty good photographer, so he had taken a lot of pics of people, I have no idea of, who they were and what relation they had to him. The same with my mother, there are pics of her parents, my grandparents, with their siblings and parents and grandparents, and I can't ask my mother anymore who they were. She has told me many years ago, but I don't remember it anymore.

No, when you lose somebody in your close family, doors to memories are shut and locked, so they only exists in your own memory. Heck, as late as last year, when I passed a buildingsite, where there used to be a pub and a dancerestaurant, where my sister took me back when I was 15(!), and we had so much fun in there, I thought that I would call her and tell her, that it has been demolish, and she would think it was fun. But she died in 2000, so there were nobody to call, and the memories from our nights there exist only in my memory. This is really sad to think of. So I have enjoyed so much to talk with my brother about things, he and I have experienced together.

Yes, I understand that. When my father died we had the same problem with photos. He was a professional photographer for decades. And it was emotionally hard to look at the good days with him and us on the photos. But as time goes by, it gets easier - at least I think so. The sorrow becomes less over time and the good memories becomes stronger and overshadow whatever bad there were.

My mom is 82 and I've tried to encourage her to write names of people on the back of the photos she's got, but she's too old now to manage - or even care. It's a huge task and I understand that it's not easy to do. We should've done it 20 years ago instead... when memory also was fresher.
