LINK What was it that Ben Franklin once said about security and liberty...and then there's George Orwell.

It does say "intent to annoy" which is an important distinction.

In the U.S. Legal System, you'd have to prove that the person was intentionally annoying, not just annoying. You'd have to prove that they did it on purpose.

Hey I don't have to reveal his identity either although for $10 I might consider it. paypal ready ;)

Really though...is that serious? I cannot believe it!

If it is I need to team up with misfit. I reckon we could corner the market here as tracers of anonymous posters - we could easily charge $20 in order that folk could secure a conviction.

Any how in the spirit of these things I am King George III and my address is most of the world except USA which I want back please. ;)

I saw that online yesterday myself - I guess it's no big deal IF you don't go around giving others a hard time then.

(Hey - I've had that happen to me, & FOR YEARS UNENDING from a particular group that will remain nameless here... & it's aggravating! Also, it's rather sad because there are guys that actually like to hound others to no end, call names, harass, etc./et all... OR, that startup with others just for (as one of them put it) for "shits-n-giggles", pretty lame!)

E.G.-> I've got a pack that have been doing that to me since 2001 or so, & constantly crap on me on their messageboard forums (2 of them) - but, when it comes to technical issues & proofs of them in discussions?

They always had to end up resorting to calling me names, harassing & threatening me via email & I never ONCE went to where they were after the first time, they always came after me to numerous forums online!

(@ slashdot + Windows IT Pro magazine, recently where I still go & other spots if they spot me @ them, but I never go to THEIR 'homecourt' (their forums boards etc.)).

So, I know what it's like unfortunately, being on the receiving end of people who like starting trouble... Now, if they do this again? I have SO much evidence of it, they will only be burying themselves.

Do I want to do that? Not really, but now, there is ABSOLUTELY legal means to do so @ my disposal in this legislation.

(In the end with said group though - I found the ONLY way to fight them was the old adage "fight fire with fire", because on technical issues I floored them consistently & every time - they don't respond to that or the questions regarding that (forums this happened in were about the field of comp. sci.) I put their way, not once, pure avoidance)

However, I found out that their 'bottom-line/goal' really was, from their point of view?

Their entire goal was to make me act as bad as they were (name calling etc. out of frustration) & to lower me to their level: Point-blank, that's what one of them told me... pretty lame!

However, they managed it a couple times, getting me to act as they did ("when in rome, do as the romans do" I figured - anything to get them off my back).

Anyhow - I guess the point is:

Try not to make enemies or start fights (even 'finishing them' is pointless with people who like causing trouble imo & experience, even if you beat them on technical grounds & prove it credibly), but how can you live like a man, & not make enemies sometimes?

I dunno I guess. After all, it's JUST messageboards forums & such, but where I am from & grew up?

You run once? You'll be running the rest of your days... can't have that!

:(

* Anyhow, how they will enforce this is beyond me, & also it will be a field-day for attorneys world-wide imo!

APK

P.S.=> My advice to youngsters practicing law would be to get ready to specialize in this area maybe? It may open up a WHOLE NEW style/class of lawsuit... opportunity for them would abound imo there...

Besides - anonymous proxy servers abound, highly anonymous ones... how do you trace that, when they are overseas based (outside of the U.S.)?? apk

LOL...

Only in USA could it be against the law for being nasty on purpose, while at the same time not saying who you were.....

It's really rather funny...

Next time some person cuts you up in their Virtual reality car, in an on line game, you have to shout:

"you tosser, my name is John Doe, and I live at 123 north street"......

Foamy is "Lord and Master".

Haha. Are they going to use our tax dollars to higher "forum police" to keep us inline?
As far as I’m concerned all this stuff the govt is doing behind our backs and such does not apply if you are not a terrorist. I don’t think the govt is going to spend time listening in on the average Joe Some phone conversation or a forum where a bunch of computer nerds are looking for aliens.
I think we can still continue to annoy in peace.

It's a terrible law but any prosecutor pursuing such a case would be ridiculed far and wide. I doubt it would ever be applied in reality. Nonetheless, is a stupid law.

Find a thread or post by 'Andy K'. In his signature there is a link there. I downloaded it today that way.
