Message 207720 - Posted: 9 Dec 2005, 7:36:55 UTC - in response to Message 203065.

A few of us are trying to track the cause of 500 errors.
It appears that it may have something to do with MTU sizes.

I am in a LAN,and there IS a router between us.I think it eats all ICMP signals, since TRECERT shows all * out of my proxy.

BUT, when I access galileo.ssl.berkeley.edu through IE browser,it shows 403 forbidden. So connections CAN be estimated,I think.

I want to ask a question. Does BOINC get WU through http protocol? If not, then, which? Which port? 80? 8080? 443?

Now I am confused. BOINC works fine a few days ago. And it got mad these days.
I don't think I changed the MTU size. It's not a toy to me.

I am just telling sth I have just realized which should be reported.

Sorry for my poor English. It's not my native.

Aha, you should realized that SETI@Home is very very popular.
So,complaining DOES pour to all of you when its servers come down.

Maybe you should complain to the one who set the project up, Mr. wolf!

Yes, I too would like to complain!

I am a newbee to the whole SETI project - I have been running for about 2 weeks with no problems. Now I have a list of about 12 jobs in my transfere queue.

My message queue is full of error 500's.

Reading through all the threads, I assume there are 'traffic' problems now and then, so I will endure the down time.

Keep up the good work!

I'm complaining that you could write a loop or recursion long time ago and generate as many complains as you need! LOL

Suggestion:

Change the thread to some kind of elaborate multi-player Nth dimensional tic tac toe game that has no point or something similar so that all the users still writing in with the occasional "I'm getting error code 500 and nothing's loading" messages would have something else to fuss with and let the seti folks do the work they have to do. (i.e. ... Let's face it people, ...it'll be fixed when it's fixed)

(I know, I know, ... that's not technically a complaint.)

Well, I see everyone seems to be having the same problem. I would presume that SETI is preparing to gather remaining data from the old client and then will "catch up" on the new data. They probably have to do some kind of parsing or something to switch over, who knows. At any rate, maybe after the 15th when the old system is no longer running, this will work better.

Its kind of funny though, the old system ran flawlessly without all of these new bells and whistles. I guess software weenies are given carte blanche to change for change sake. I don't subscribe to this thinking. I stand by the motto, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

You have to agree though, it looks more techno-babblish and is prettier! Now I would like to know how they gleen my IP addresses from behind a NAT server!

I'm complaining that now I'm unable to connect to syncronise my results to clear the "ready to report" uploads, as well as all the 500 and -106 errors I get - so there!!!
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

I think it's the client reporting the ip address of the first physical interface
cause from my linux system the internal network adress is shown.

Looking for answers? Look Here

Matt did a damn good job explaining why classic is closing down, and other things that are important to this project.

That's why boinc came along, cos classic is broke, it didn't run flawlessly, the new bells and whistles make it more efficient, they're 50 mil behind with validation! that's quite a lot, people were complaining when seti-boinc was 1 mil behind

I'm in the right place for complaining - OK it's open for complaining!!!

ok, my complaint ->

would you guys, especially celtic wolf and the other dorks in here, stop spamming my thread.

In my thread "make it go - an analogy" we are trying to discuss some serious issues, and the message keeps getting lost in your spam.

tell your mates to grow up and be responsible like me.

I thank you in anticipation of your support.

I know you speak English, but have a failure to comprehend it. I wil attempt to make this clear to you.

If anyone here actually thought you trying to doanything serious you thread would have become spammed. You and Kevin & Seth are nothing but the trolls you claim EVERYONE else are. Serious conversation do not include childish insult to anyone that disagrees with you. They do not include your deluted Star trek fantasies. They certianly do not include insulting the people who have built this project from the ground up.

I'd suggest that you go away and comwe back when you actually have a clue how this software runs and why it does what it does, but all know that trolls don't simply vanish into the woodwork.
