There must be someone out there with a creative bone in their body that can come up with a halfway decent t-shirt - people will buy it, SETI@Home will make money. Sounds fairly easy to me, unless I'm missing something....

Sounds like a very good idea, Devs...?

"And, MY point is that a "real" donation comes from deep within ones pockets, no matter how much they can afford. NOT from what ones computer can do.... Any dolt can supply CPU cycles to the project. It takes someone who REALLY believes in the project to dig deep...."

The above statement is insulting to the folks who pay large amounts for electricity to run computers for Seti.

Not corporates but the hundreds of home farmers out there.

You mean this one? I agree it would be great on a black T-shirt. But without the BOINC logo lower right. People would say: "Hey, great T-shirt! ...but do you know a seagull shit on it?" LOL Not that I think the BOINC logo looks like a seagull shit (no way!), but I'm afraid if you shrink the picture so it'll fit on a T-shirt, the logo will be so small that people will confuse it with seagull shit - by mistake. :)

Since they seem in big need for solutions, another Donation has been sent on its way
(me thinks that's No.4 so far, but not sure)

The above statement is insulting to the folks who pay large amounts for electricity to run computers for Seti.

hehe indeed, if I was to donate my monthly energy bill, I'd probably be soon listed as "Corporate Sponsor" or something

Why is the green star for MONEY used before the donation of computer time? "buy a green star for $0.50!"

Maybe the green star means your computer is energy efficient

crunching is crunching...and fundraising is fundraising...seems to me that both must have a place here to keep this project going...as for the large contributions of computer time and the cost of electricity...that form of donation is readily apparent when one looks at the number of cobblestones crunched...seti has been counting that form of contribution for a long time...now to generate another form of contribution...they have instituted the "green stars"...to recognize those who contribute monetary donations...i do not see how this notation degrades the contributions of those who crunch for seti...we all know that the use of our computers is the thing that makes this project, and others like it possible...
but there are other needs which need addressing too...things only cash donations can buy...and if putting a green star besides someone's name gets the cash flowing...then i think it's something that should be done...

i'm not here to argue about what cause that people should contribute to...that's a personal thing...it should be up to the individual to make that decision...not up to someone elses estimation of what cause needs the money most...i don't think anyone who contributes monetarily to seti is better or greater in any way, than those who crunch without making an monetary donation...both kinds of contributions help seti...and isn't that what we're trying to do here?...

PROUD TO BE TFFE!

If it could be made larger by the original author then that would work.

Monday I will contact a friend of mine that has been doing Silk Screening for somewhere around 20 years... It used to be that 3 color setup was around a $100 and with a minimum+ order the costs vary...

So if enough people are interested, enough T Shirts could be ordered and then placing a credit card in the "appropiate dontation queue" at UCB could get you a T Shirt. For those that do not want to/or have a credit card a form of Banq Check could be done. Obvioulsy shipping would be via mail to reduce shipping/handling costs. So as I said if there is enough interest, then Matt can setup the web form for ordering... I will donate the cost of the 3 color Setup here... The goal would be min of 200 Tshirts...
So Monday or Tuesday as I have the quote for 200 min order will post the results here. Then Matt and Crew can decide whether it worth persuing.

Hi, Ray - I just plagiarized some of your text below for our donation site. I hope that's okay.

After you get a PayPal account you can get a PayPal Debit Card. The debit card is a Master Card, so you can use it as a Master Card Credit Card to pay your donatins. Than SETI gets the money through Master Charge from your Paypal Acount.

...

Ray

The only suggestion I would have for the picture is to have the URL of SETI and or BOINC on there someplace. IMHO

I will be checking into some other things for the initial order
Graphic Front or Back side of the Shirt and setiathome.berkely.edu on the front where the pocket would be. So will try for what options might be available.

Wow... yesterday I went to bed at about 12:20 local time... there were 72 donations (I don't remember the total in $$$, but was about 2,000)... And today, at 9:47 I checked back and now there are 84 donations, totaling $3,230.50 ..
way to go, donors!

Just because Seti@Home is a NON PROFIT ORG doesn't mean that people working within it are. The Green Stars are going to be not only, a HANDY link to their donation page but, also a reminder to all those that haven't got one, they haven't contributed.

Got to hand it too you Matt a nice way to increase otherwise flagging contributions to your Sala.. (COUGH) Seti

Strange also to note that nobody from SETI has time to keep us updated about the project (not outages) but Matt has plenty of time to participate in this forum about donations (MONEY) Nice....

Personally, I prefer to have the graphic on the back.

Oh, while you are at it, can you make the link on the shirt clickable? well... maybe not, but worth a try anyway.

I suppose it could be made that way, however dragging miles of fiber and the cost for the ATM Link might make it a bit pricey... LOL

BTW you could always find your way Home Snciker
