Just curious, what motivates those of you that hide your computers? You do realize your IP is only visible to YOU when you're logged in, and SETI@HOME already has your IP, not to mention if you have a router it would only be your internal IP anyway!! I think seeing what machines other participants have is 1/2 the fun of SETI. comments?

But, maybe THIS is the proper place to ask such questions. Or even Q&A....

Siran, I saw it first over in the Cafe, so I answered him there! And I don't post redundant posts, therefore my link!

But yes, I also thought this would fit better here in Numbers, but then I thought, what the heck, we get so many questions about this and that over in the Cafe! ;-)

wow, nice attitude. The funny thing is that I posted the question in 'number crunching' at 0:56:48 UTC and you didn't post your answer to my original posting in the cafe until 0:59 UTC. So really you hadn't answered me yet.. but thanks for sharing either way.

Whats really funny is that most the people who hide their machines for security reasons are said to be the people who fax documents by holding them up to their computer screen and need new cup holders for their computers.

ROFL

Oh.. and say "cashay" instead of "cash" for the word 'cache'.

I posted this response to your very rude comment to my post above!

And BTW, please meet Mr. Ignore!

Do ANY other people here REALLY have a problem with others hiding their computers? As Fuzzy stated, if you look at results, you can see the computer that returned it [not verbatim].

The only time it bugs me to see computers hidden is when someone surpasses my credit count in such a short amount of time that I get curious with what they are running. Other than that I could care less about hidden computers. As a matter of fact, mine are hidden....

I'd only have a problem with it if I try to help someone, see what his PC(s) have turned out in the past 24 hours, see if I can make anything of how quickly he churned out his work units. With what errors and all.

But usually people tell about what units went wrong. With a link.
So when someone hides his computer(s), gives no link to a bad unit, I'd usually ask for the message tab to be posted here or a link to a bad unit. No big deal.

Right! It was a new member orientation meeting when I was pointing out the disadvantages of joining other teams such as [insert your non-synergy team name here]

And since 99% of the people couldn't follow your presentation, they joined other teams with [insert your non-synergy team name here] names instead. :)

Nope, not you. Someone else here and I guess they did just today and posted it you-know-where. She's relatively new here....

That doesn't matter, Fuzzball. If we can't try to teach people (how to do things), we're useless over here.

Okay, he may never be Wiki writing material, but then again, neither is 99% of the population here. ;)

So if I "dumbed it down" it would be easier for the [insert your non-synergy team name here] simpletons to understand? OK, well I'll try Babblefish and see if they have an english-bozo translation. :)

Sure... Try it in this one as well.

(p.s.: Can you dumb it down even more then? The BS level can go into the negative?)

Another reason is that they are using computers that are not belonging to them. And they don't want that to be seen (those computers will show the network names from that network).
