At a risk of "me too..", I have also just completed 6 years. I am currently managing to hang in there in the top 2000 users with my 4-5 machines at arounda RAC of 400, but now getting more worried about my electricty bill than my position in the stats! No signature or avatar! |

Somebody should build that functionality into BOINC. For that matter, why isn't there something to tell you when a work unit you just crunched is flagged as "interesting?" That functionality is all possible through add-ons, just like we did on Classic. You can go here and grab BoincLogX which will keep track of all your processed workunit information, and while you're there also be sure to grab SETI MapView which will plot their positions on a very nice starmap and highlight the interesting signals for you. :) Dig |

Well, today is my 6 years! My first machine on SETI was a PII-350 Dell. It ran Win98 and came with 32MB. We still have that machine, but its processor has been upgraded to 550Mhz. It's running Win2K and has 256MB now. It is no longer running SETI, but UD. The "kids" use it, and I never mess with it unless there is a problem. I never have to touch UD, it takes care of itself. I say "kids" -- it's down to my 17 year old daughter, who will probably soon get a laptop before going to college. That machine will then be permanently retired. I currently run BOINC at home with a bunch of projects as well as SETI on a couple of boxes with dual P3 mobos. I've resisted the urge to go P4 due to the power use. These P3's already use too much power. It would be nice to jump straight to P-M's... |

It's funny seeing all these 'retired' computers being talked about. I just un-retired an old as the hills box, and put it back to work. It's an old PII-300 running Suse Linux 9.2 (2.4.8 kernel) For the most part, I just let it do it's thing undisturbed. It is a sad sad day when someone takes your spoon away from you... |

Hmm, well, the box itself won't get retired, I'll probably put something better in it... ;-) |

Six years ago on 28th May. First crunched on AST 200Mhz laptop - still got it, still works (sort-of) but not used for crunching. PS any optimized client for PIII MMX ? ;) |

I was thinking about starting this thread about 2 days before it began because my six year anniversary was coming up. I resisted the urge to jump in with "I almost have six years, too!" Congratulations to all of you who have passed the six year mark and other important milestones. Happy six years to me, today! (at GMT that is) |

Yes, just over 6 years also. Good endurance test for these boxes. Doubt mine has been off a total of one month in these years. Okay, 6 more years, I'll try for another 6, at least. Hope ET gets the idea soon and stops in to say 'Hey'... TEAM: RICHARD FEYNMAN http://boinc.mundayweb.com/one/stats.php?userID=639&trans=off |

I have been crunching all the time - but always with slower computers, except this newest one I bought last fall - don't have room for more than one computer (actually I don't have any room for even one if it should have some sort of ventilation ;)) A May99 group? :) Let's see what I do when I get the sub-teams up *lol* |
