Personal background
I'm a certified network engineer and all-around geek. I'm fascinated by astronomy and the physical sciences in general. I'm a Berkeley grad (Business School) and am a big fan of all things Cal.

I am very involved in different aspects of computing, webmaster a few web sites and play several on-line games (gaming got me into computers in the first place).

I am proud to support Seti by running it on my computers 24/7 (3 Windows and 5 Linux). The command line versions run faster and are easily configured.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Other BOINC projects I current participate in include Climate Prediction, PrimeGrid, Predictor, World Community Grid, and uFluids.

I believe that extraterrestrial life certainly exists; whether we will contact it is another question. I have run into many people who run SETI, and even those who are skeptical we will contact life beyond this planet in our lifetimes are enthusiastic about the project. Knowing that there are so many who are contributing gives me the sense that we are much closer than the average person might believe.

But as far as contacting other life? The unknown is always thrilling to contemplate but scary at the same time. Still, I believe it is our destiny as humans to explore the universe as long as we don't fall into the trap of thinking it's "our" universe.
