Apparently Microsoft is releasing a major Windows 10 update — also known as Redstone 5. It will include a number of new features for devices, like a new cloud clipboard that syncs across machines and a dark File Explorer. Redstone 5 is offically the October Update. https://www.windowschimp.com/redstone-5/ I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

Apparently Microsoft is releasing a major Windows 10 update — also known as Redstone 5. It will include a number of new features for devices, like a new cloud clipboard that syncs across machines and a dark File Explorer. Not to mention that the update has been put on hold because of a "bug" that causes personal files to be deleted in some cases. V1809 is, however, still available for download as a ISO file. I've been trying to find out when Micro$oft will go ahead with the push again. Nothing so far... Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Yet more 'hiccups' to look out for lest they break your Windows: Microsoft promises a fix for Windows 10 zip file woes. In November You don't want fixes. You really want a shiny new Windows Search. Of course you do... Microsoft has confirmed that, yes, that whole zip-file thing is indeed a bug and, er, no. It won’t be fixing it until November. But hey, how about a new Windows Search? Open zip file, cut, paste and… argh!... The advice is simple: “We recommend you fully extract the zip folder before you copy files to a new destination folder to avoid this issue.†It does, however, stop short of suggesting that a third party archive manager would be able to do the job or, heck, just uninstall the OS and have done with. Slightly more worryingly, Microsoft also warns that users should “not attempt to Cut and Paste items from a compressed (.zip) folder†because “this may result in unintentionally deleting items that may not be recoverable.â€... ... Windows 10 wrecking-ball weapon weirdly wanders wildly on worldwide web Zero-day crash'n'pwn exploit for Microsoft's latest OS disclosed, no official patch available (yet)... ... The researcher has provided a proof-of-concept on GitHub and tweeted out a link earlier this week – see below. If the recent "ZIP bug crash & wipe" was not bad enough for Windows 10 users you have this fixed bug: Windows 10 bug lets Microsoft Store apps snoop on all your files without asking The big takeaways for tech leaders: * A bug in Windows 10 prior to the October 2018 Update, build 1809, allows UWP apps to access any user files without asking for permission. * The bug has been resolved in the October 2018 Update but may result in earlier UWP apps crashing. Windows developer Sebastien Lachance discovered that by default Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps can access any user-accessible file on a PC's drive. |

My new HP desktop runs Windows 10 version 1803, while my older desktop, also HP, had Windows 10 1809, always in the Home edition. Has Microsoft retired the 1809 version? Tullio |

My new HP desktop runs Windows 10 version 1803, while my older desktop, also HP, had Windows 10 1809, always in the Home edition. Has Microsoft retired the 1809 version? 1809 was removed from distribution because of major bugs, one of which deletes users personal files from the directories created by Windows when installed. I read one report where a user lost some 200GB of personal files/data. When it's ready for prime time, 1809 will be distributed again. Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L.
