Just wanted to let my Seti friends know what is going on......I know some of you occasionally monitor my crunching for purposes of general interest.......

I have suspended Seti crunching for a week or two to assist my fellow crunchers over at SETI.USA in their quest to obtain and hold the top spot at Proteins.....

Nothing wrong here at Seti whatsoever, I have been quite happy with my recent RAC using the new apps....

But Proteins is supposed to be wrapping things up for a while sometime soon, and I had a personal request to help out the team 'till the work is gone......

Hope you all understand.......no problems on the Seti front, just a small diversion.....

I'll still be on the forums, and I'll be back crunching Seti full time just as soon as the kitties have put this other little project to bed.........

Best Regards to all,
Mark.

There's no problem with being on a team......they cannot force you to do anything differently than you wish to.......your credits simply help your team out....

I just chose to help my team with their project...

I'll be back here soon...don't ya worry...

Your BOINC Combined stats will still grow as the new project (Proteins) will count towards your total.

Good crunching for the team on that project, Mark
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

[off topic, somewhat]
I would LOVE to help my team with their projects, but alas, I STILL can't get to their website...

And any SETI.USA members wishing to help out should do so soon, I just checked and Proteins is down to 157,700 wus left on the server.....
This contest may be ending sooner than some projected, there were about 200,000 or more left last night.

Just pondering, couldn't some unscrupulous team cheat in a contest like this? Their members all set their hosts to D/L the largest cache of WU's allowed. That way, when the project is out of WU's, they crunch and return their cache while everyone else has their RAC's dwindling because they have none to crunch and return.

Like I said, just pondering... :-)

It is possible, but Proteins became aware of this and put a limit on how many WU any one host can download. It's currently set at 30 WU per core. Once you reach the 30 limit you can only download a new wu when you report a completed one.

Mark, thanks for answering the call for help. Like you said it may be way shorter than anyone anticipated. Proteins seems to be running out of work very quickly.

It took about 2-3 months for an RAC of at best 1200 to sink to a point where it was too low to post.

The messages say 30 per host, but it could be 30 per core.......

At any rate, currently a little more than 95,000 left, down from the 175,000 or so I posted this morning.......

Any Seti USA team member that wants to help for a few days....jump in and grab a few..........
