Here's the proof Fake proof to fake a fake assumption ... good accurate pictures though (shots are clear and sharp, if still fakes) It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

While people seem to be much more 'gullible' today, back then people were still less likely to 'question' anything... So yes, it could have been faked quite easily... My question is: Why have we not been back? Surely with our advancements in science and technology we could learn much more now than we did 50 years ago... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Here's the proof I must say I liked the pictures as they scrolled in to the proof and showed the full Clanger story developing. That was a good programme. Pity I was 40 years too old to watch it as a child! It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

While people seem to be much more 'gullible' today, back then people were still less likely to 'question' anything... So yes, it could have been faked quite easily... The Apollo Program was phenominally expensive but one must remember the REAL reason for the Space Race, and that was to show the world in no uncertain terms that: 1. The US can build intercontinental missiles that work. 2. The US is "superior" to the USSR. After the US landed on the Moon, the US and USSR space programs took very different tracks, no longer competing directly. The US sent probes to the outer solar system while the USSR sent probes to the surface of Venus. Mir also lasted a lot longer than Skylab, which itself lasted longer than any of the Salyut stations. No animals were harmed in the making of the above post... much. |

While people seem to be much more 'gullible' today, back then people were still less likely to 'question' anything... So yes, it could have been faked quite easily... Because we found out that the Moon is actually an offshoot of the Earth. There is nothing new to learn about the rock. There IS plenty to learn about things ON the rock, but millions of years an asteriod or something else HUGE hit the Earth and the Moon was pushed off. Geologically it is of no more interest, and that is where the money was coming from. Now as we start making the push for Mars, we will take small steps, and the Moon is definatelly back on the schedule. We will have bases, some limited terra-forming experiments, etc, etc, etc. |

My question is: Why have we not been back? I guess for the same reason the wretched Republicans cancelled the Superconducting Supercollider in March 1993. I still haven't gotten over it. Don't they know that nice economic advantages like the entire electronics industry, modern medicine and food production for the one billion meals served every day in this country are the result of the study of matter and energy using particle acclerators? We gave the show away to Europe and lost several hundred top research physicists to Europe when that happened. Fortunately American ingenuity has helped to recover from that mess, but we lost ground. Space exploration has also generated an abundance of new technologies as well as a potential future for humanity if we can pursue it without politics. (re. without politics: If any Republican members of congress read this, I should mention that Europe is a distant land across the great sea to the East, and an economic competitor of our own country, the United States. Also, the moon is a place, not just a light in the sky.) |

Heh. For further clarification - the official spelling seems to be "Yurp" instead of "Europe" :o) Regards Hans |
