I remember the "Bob" OS... Sorta like OS'es for dummies... It died, hmm I wonder why... So we have no BOINC for Dummies... I stopped by Barnes and Noble and did not see any Yellow books... BOINC for Dummies...

Hmmm PANIC Mode On!
BOINC for dummies would not have a wide enough audience. Besides it is a moving target. If the book came out today, it would be covering 2.x.
the Wiki is the "BOINC for dummies" guide because it can constantly and instantly be updated with current relavent data to keep-pace with the current status

or at least that should be one of it's goals

I take this to mean that galileo, milkyway, kosh, klaatu, and kryten combined can't match the muscle of a single little penguin.

I only report what I see, I even consulted your own excelent graphs. Units available steadily declined from 450,000ish in last 24 hrs.

And I was only poking fun at what was reported. Those other 5 splitters are just farts in the wind if the show stops when just the 6th one dies.

yeah, right, like a proxy connection in Australia takes more redirects to get to berkeley then say one connected to Cogent directly.

Only about 13 hops at the moment.

Not only is the available work listed as 0, but i notice on the network traffic graphs there was a bit of a hiccup for about 5½ hours or so. Things didn't come to a complete halt, but they did slow down buy about 50%.

that's the nature of networking, especially on the Internet, a long distance connection just uses the "big" hops, but a local one has to go thru quite a few of the local hops to get to the same place
try traceing a site near you (or your ISPs mail server for example) and compare the number of hops to how many there are to get to berkeley lol

ah, that's why it's so slow ;)
the FBI/NSA don't have enough bandwidth, so everyone is slowed down, maybe they ought to be sued as well :P

I guess we can chain up Chicken Little until the next disaster.

Having spoken with a few people from NSA, I reckon they would say the FBI are amateurs. Therefore not interchangable.

well, considering some of the things the NSA are doing to "improve" "security" i'd have to label both the same

have a read of Bruce Schneier's Security Blog
