.... you received for Christmas this year?

Mine was the flag from my grandfather's funeral in 1962. I was 10 when he died and I remember the funeral, some of it anyway. There was the gun solute and planes flying over in formation. >:-) (-:<

That's quite a special gift. I've got my grandfather's certificate from the National Coal Board for 45 years of service. I didn't get it for Christmas but it means a lot to me.

This year I got a a book of poetry, the new Gorillaz CD and a goat. I'm pretty pleased. :-)

My gifts this christmas (monetary gifts from mom and grandma) went for a few components I'll use in an external hot swap scsi raid storage device I plan to build.

Well I'd have to say I like this tight black pullover I got. Usually I choose my own clothes, but this one is really neat and I'll enjoy wearing it.

When I was a kid, and the oldest of six, I was always glad to get clothes. The others would get my outgrown hand-me-downs.... (-:< >:-)

I find it hard to rate the gifts I receive. It's the act of giving I appreciate the most, so I'm happy just to get something. It really doesn't matter what it is. That said, I do appreciate more a gift which the giver has made more effort in the thought or by making it.

Henceforth, if I have to make a selection, I think the best gift I received this year was a 2006 calendar from my brother, with his own beatuiful pictures - each taken in the corresponding month of its calendar sheet.

Mine was the flag from my grandfather's funeral in 1962. I was 10 when he died and I remember the funeral, some of it anyway. There was the gun solute and planes flying over in formation. >:-) (-:<
That was a beautiful gift, Siran. Simple, unvaluable and memorable.

Yes a "goat".
There was nothing I really wanted this year (well nothing that I could realistically have. I would have liked a small island to rule ruthlessly over as Queen/Goddess but sadly it wasn't to be.) So I asked for a goat from The Good Gifts Catalogue. So instead of me getting some useless bit of merchandise, someone, somewhere gets something that makes a real difference to their lives. :-)

Thanks.... My brother made a really nice wood case with glass cover to house the flag. Maybe I'll ask him to use his digital camera and take a pic. Then I'll post it for all to enjoy.... (-:<

Are we talking a real live, "live" goat here? If we are, that would be a cool gift.... (-:<

Yup. It's a charity that gives real things to those that need them. I'll quote from the card:

"Thank you for giving a goat to a local family in war-torn countries, giving food and hope for the future.".

Well, Siran's gift definitely beats anything I got this year. However, I'd say I had two really cool (material) gifts this year. First, I got a Vancouver Canucks jersey, in the home game colours. Then I celebrated peace on Earth, good will towards men.

Then I opened my other cool gift: Quake 4.

Peace, schmeace, someone's gettin' a railgun up their butt! >:)

The greatest gift I could have gotten this year would have been to have both of my girls here, but that didn't happen.

What I got instead was the second best thing: A friend of mine for over 10 years called to wish me Merry Christmas. We spent hours on the phone catching up on the happenings of each other, our kids, friends, and past/current relationships.
