Pardon me if this has been asked, but- I've a substantial amount of work over the last 6 years that I've done under the old system. Results returned, 14,228 CPU time 16.58 Years 99.674% ranking. Sure, that had me with 17,000 some odd users ahead of me but 5,419,301 behind me. Is there a way to import your credit in the same fashion it imported the rest of our account info? |

Yes. Ah, I see. And they won't be incorperated into the BOINC scheme of totaling, then. Thanks for the answer. |

My problem is that I just found out about the new system. I've be running classic from March until now, having built up another approx. 100 work units that aren't accounted for. Since classic still accrues WU, I'll keep using that. Mac OS X ver. 3.08 Ideally, full credit could be transferred, since I've been there since Mar. 1999. Yes. |

1999. There are various reasons classic credit can't be transferred. First off, BOINC measures credit in an entirely different way, measuring cobblestones instead of counting completed WUs. Cobblestones are much more accurate and fairer since WUs can vary in size and complexity (more so across projects, so it gives it a good way to compare your contribution to various projects). Also, BOINC only grants credit for valid science, meaning if the WU you completed was bad, you don't get credit for it (discouraging people from overclocking, which speeds up processing but can introduce errors that completely invalidates the science), whereas in classic it would be treated just like every other perfectly valid WU. Second, BOINC incorporates many more checks to prevent people from cheating (which was a major problem with classic). If BOINC credit was granted to people in your situation, it would encourage would-be cheaters to use classic to up their BOINC stats. Given this, it would be impossible to come up with a fair conversion from classic WUs to BOINC credits, so the folks at Berkeley did the fairest thing they could: keep the classic stats in your account but have everyone start at zero in BOINC. [edit] Rereading your post, I think I may have misinterpreted. Do you just want the classic credit you've done since March to show up on your account here? Have no fear, it will be added when classic shuts down and they do the final snapshot (1-3 months)[/edit] Here's an Installation Guide. Try the Wiki for other questions. |

There are some computers that I use for the Seti@home project that will not (for technical reasons) run BOINC. So I continue to run both the classic and BOINC versions. But on some other computers, I run both versions on the same computer.

But on some other computers, I run both versions on the same computer. Running both versions doesn't do anything for you. BOINC runs at a lower priority than Classic, so where you've got both installed and running, Classic will get the CPU time, and BOINC will sit patiently waiting. If you've got BOINC running, you may as well close Classic on that computer. MJ (former disgruntled postal worker) ![]() |

I also have many WU in classic (27,532) but they don't show up in the account page. When I created the Boinc account, it wouldn't recognize my classic email address and password. I can still run the classic version and it still adds the credits to my account (Coco). How can I get the classic WU credit shown in the account page? I've been doing this for more than 5 years and would like to have the classic credit shown at least :-) Thanks, Coco |

Is it still possible to print a certificate with my 5,000 classic workunits? The http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/cert_print.php doesn't work. Is there an official number on how many classic accounts that are lost ? --- Join The Real World @ http://www.distributed.net |
