And we are already seeing the effects of adaptive replication validating bad results with no wingman checking.

That can't be scientifically sound. Especially having in mind all the AMD/ATI GPU's producing nothing else than crap. And of course all the other crap producing computers we have here.

It's supposed to work only on validated hosts that have a very high ratio of valid to invalid tasks. But I definitely agree that I would rather that the project ran slower without it than faster with it. Even the most reliable host can have a driver conniption or other issue causing it to trash its entire queue into Invalids. For example, my largest host will do that if it loses the secondary PSU which only drives the GPUs. Without validation, all of those will be instantly entered into the final science database.

I hope it's turned off.

We could cut our caches to 0.0 + 0.0 - return every task after just 5 minutes and get the 'first back' reward? No, I didn't think so either.

My most active Host already has five six Invalids today, mostly from the Bad ATI/AMD GPUs, https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=6813106&state=5
Another Host has two Invalids from Hosts that have a history of inaccurate results. It seems if the late result is in any way different than the first result it is instantly deemed Invalid, https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=6906726&state=5

Not so much "late" as SECOND - late implies it arrived after its deadline, while second is when the second result arrives within the deadline. I've lost count of the number of times my lowly RPi get a task back well before much more powerful computers.

I have stopped crunching and canceled all of the tasks I had. With this problem it makes no sense to me.

I will resume crunching when the problem is fixed. See you all.

To add a few more data points, none of my hosts are currently showing invalid tasks.

I have a hard time accepting that they're just letting this nonsense keep running. I'm going to NNT until it has been resolved.

UG. I'm going NNT as well. I have a 2 day cache and I'm sick thinking I could waste my time doing WUs to have my good result rejected and bad result entered just because they did it faster than I did.

Message 2029983 - Posted: 30 Jan 2020, 22:54:24 UTC

Greetings,

I'm kinda confused about what the invalid topic is all about.

I went through my 7 hosts and found 0 (zero) invalid and error WUs. Am I lucky or have I not been chewing on the right WUs to get invalids?

I have seen invalid WUs from time to time, but nothing like what's been reported here in the past couple days. I believe that I was told the way it works is that if you get an inconclusive, the WU goes out to another host. If the results come back and match mine, cool. If not and it matches my wing person, mine is listed as invalid. Correct? I do have a boat load of inconclusive results throughout my hosts. I figure that when I see an invalid that an inconclusive came back and matched someone else.

Have a great day! :)

The Validation procedure has been changed within the past day, now you don't receive an Inconclusive result if your result is not received first. Now the First result received is Automatically Validated and any following results that don't match are ruled Invalid. Look at these results, do you see any third result, or Inconclusive result?

Here is the Host whose results were received First, and Awarded as being Valid, State: All (5990) · In progress (300) · Validation pending (189) · Validation inconclusive (407) · Valid (4590) · Invalid (504) · Error (0)
That Host doesn't appear to be producing Valid results does it? It's producing what appears to be Overflows, but the Stderr is missing. Yet, the results are being Validated.

The other strange thing is that different awarded points were granted. I do not think I have ever seen that before.

This task of mine was invalidated by a host that found more than 30 signals in the task. 42 in fact. 34 spikes alone.

Proper count should have been 0 0 8 2 0.

Yep. There's no point in participating in this. I recommend NNT until it's over.

They have "Tasks in progress suppressed pending completion" set on AP as well, so might even be a problem there as well.
