I disagree. Pure power wins out over the bunkering. + 1 NO way us "simple mortals" could compete with farm of hosts but that is not the point of the WoW event. The WoW event is a celebration not a real competition. We all here for the same, try to identify an ET signal. Bunkering just add fun... in some particular races, you never know the size of the bunkering the other has. |

I think SETI.Germany just showed their secret weapon! 127 hosts, but no GPUs that I could see. Looks like a cloud computing provider? If so, they could have access to a lot more nodes. Impressive. https://www.boincstats.com/stats/0/user/detail/8418913 Roger |

One thing is clear though, if they register this "user" (account) for the event, last years individual winner "W3Perl", will not be this years winner. what makes you say that? their daily production is just below mine. at around 2mil/day W3Perl is doing closer to 3mil/day.
I disagree. Pure power wins out over the bunkering. W3Perl doesnt bunker, but always wins (last couple years) due to the amount of work being done every day. even bunkering can't catch him. or the year Charles Long was participating doing a blistering 12-13M/day. you just can't compete with that.
Well that's true too. This hobby can send you broke! We all know it. And yes, the people with the largest bank accounts win. Heck.... If I were a millionaire, I'd certainly invest in the best gear. I'd have my own server room!!! A sea of 2990WX's or better etc, etc. We are all in various stages of our life. I'm in the mortgage, family, crap job phase. Well for the next 20+ years anyway :D Oh an you'll know if I ever enter that elite status of cruncher..... because I'll start hiding my hosts ;) hahaha |

W3Perl has been very consistent, so SETI.Germany knows their target. Not all of this new user's 580+ hosts haven't fully ramped up yet. Will be interesting to see where it maxes out. I'll do what I can in any case. :) The top CPUs from that user are doing about 7,800/day. If all 581 CPUs reach and sustain that production rate, total could be 4,531,800/day for the user. Not enough to beat our group, but certainly well above W3Perl's recent daily average. |

I'm sure his new transwarp engine is ready to make all more interesting. At the end, more science will be done for the project. That's all that maters. |

Pure silliness, but I'm all in this year. If I own a GPU, it's crunching. Power company loves me; will have to sleep outside for the next 2 weeks to get cool, I suspect. |

Pemdings are at a personal all time high due to bunkering I suspect. Oh well I shall crunch on and do my best to ignore this event. |

Had to drop out of the WOW event. Got 3 text messages from my local CPS energy company asking me to conserve power. Then I found this in the local news https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-08-13/texas-power-prices-briefly-surpass-9-000-amid-searing-heat I shut down both "SETI" mining racks last night but this morning I noticed the circuit breaker was tripped for the "internet and cable tv area". Why is the WOW event held in summertime during peak demand. Most of the activity is in northern hemisphere. Can this be changed periodically so it is held in Australia's summertime? I managed to get one of my computers listed among the top "20" which was a milestone for me but I will have to stop for a month or two or more. |

JStateson... What part of Texas? I'm down here too but got solar panels on the house to offset... Haven't gotten the texts....YET.... This is unreal. Last month I got the first text message stating that CPS (San Antonio) would like me to reduce power for the coming Wednesday. I did that, shut down my mining systems. Then a week later another. The message was polite asking too conserve for Wednesday again. I did not hear from them till last week. I added the number to my iPhone block list and by the end of the day I had 3 more from them as it seems they know if I read it or not (I didn't). I then went on nextdoor.com to see if any neighbors had the same problem. Under "CPS electricity" there were 58 replies about unwanted email, text and recorded messages from CPS. BTW when I saw that national report about the $9000 price change I thought that was KWH and not mega KWH and got worried about a $9000 or more bill for the month. Here are some I copied and pasted: =================================================== got a telephone call with a recorded message about my 52%. I felt like it was an invasion of privacy We have not recieved anything like that. Does anyone have the CPS thermostat? We had it at one time but they start changing our setting without letting us know. We quickly pull it out. Just wondering if that is how they are getting information. We moved from 58th place in previous test to 22nd. I made an attempt to turn off lights, turn up the thermostat, close blinds and not use large appliances during the 5 hour time period of testing. one week I was 28 and the next I was 44. I thought they were scolding me, but maybe I'm doing better than I think. A moot point; I can't think of any ways to be more efficient than I'm already doing. Temp at 81, 82 It's none of CPS's business as long as you paying your bills. They are a service provider. As a consumer we try and use only what we need to live and be comfortable but its down to the service provider to find ways of safely reducing the costs through innovation and best practices - not by telling its customers they ain't doing enough!!! They are also responsible to invest in the infrastructure to keep up with demand in all seasons!! Maybe I'm missing something and y'all getting free power from the lecky company?? I know we pay for ours and can run our A/C and use the power as we need it. Just sayin'. I could care less about what percentile I'm at! This is nothing more than peer pressure to see how you compare against your neighbors. As long as you can pay your bill, set the temperature at a setting that is comfortable for your family & forget about CPS's social engineering program to get you to comply with their random "reduce your energy" campaign. How about CPS expand their energy production to keep up with demand during these hot summer months? I'm with you, I just got an email today that had the #1 house ranked with .56 kWh, which is equivalent usage of six 100w light bulbs and nothing else at the house. Makes me wonder about the accuracy and validity of the survey. ===================================== |

Yes I'm there too.. I have those thermostats and I usually see them fooling with them. But if they mess with them too much, the thermostat drops off the wifi and then it defaults to my preprogrammed settings. So.... |

I would never give the power company the ability to control my thermostat. That's just crazy talk. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

The power company usually gives you some incentive to sign up for the thermostat control during peak usage. Like today and tomorrow are SmartAC days, where they will shut off AC units for a few hours if you signed up for the program. Nets you $50 and a free AC checkup. Today is going to hit 107°F and tomorrow 108. They certainly make money for excess usage off you come bill time. I read the issue is the removal of a lot of coal powered power plants being replaced by natural gas peaker plants in Texas. Lots of renewable power there too in the form of wind and solar. But behind the curve for energy storage to handle excess power from wind when it is not needed and could be stored for peak usage in either pumped hydro or battery storage. California where I live is going in big on stationary battery energy storage and has quite a few pumped hydro dams for peak usage during the late afternoon when all the AC's get cranked up after work.
