Are you sure that you know the difference between RAM and storage capacity Martin?

I'm not at that stage yet. It's the strange definition of what BOINC considers a "day" Should be able to get work again once the local day changes. Which is my midnight. Don't know why this error penalty box defines the day as the local time day where everywhere else in BOINC, a day is considered as UTC. At least that is what Richard tells me.

I think what I have configured for my app_info should work now without errors. I know the app works because Gaurav has been running it for a long time on his farm.

If I continue to have issues with more multiple day backoffs, I will post the app for you to test. Or I will blow away this host and start fresh with a new host. I am going to change micro-sdhc cards tomorrow anyway. I got just a U1 card and it is very slow on the Nano. I ordered the same card as I am using with the RPi3+ but the read/write access speed is very much poorer on the Nano OS. I just received a U3 card this afternoon and I flashed the disk image to it. About 3 times faster for read and write than the U1 speed card I am using. At least based on the speeds reported by Etcher when I created it. I am going to save my /home directory from the current installation off on my daily driver and then copy it back to the new faster card once I am done with all the updates.

Fingers crossed. I am using Samsung evo 3. Performance seems good, not noticed any problems, when I port mu-editor to the platform compiling was fast.

I wish I had more news to post about my Nano experience, but I still have not been able to test because I can't get any work because of the error penalty from days ago. The third 24 hour delay expired and then BOINC set another 24 hour delay.

I am using Samsung evo 1. The Nano file operations are definitely noticeable slower compared to the RPi3+ with the same exact card.

Just got work again for the Nano from Einstein. I have finally successfully crunched my first BRP4 gpu task on it. Took 690 seconds compared to 10 hours on the RPi3+ for BRP4 tasks.

My Jetson Nano arrived today. My 5V 4A supply arrives tomorrow so it's running on a micro-USB 2A supply. Tomorrow I'll kit-bash an old humongous heat sink that's bigger than the board. It shouldn't require a fan.

I don't like the newer Ubuntu GUI. They're mimicking Apple and Microsoft's sparse interfaces with hidden controls. I'll try and install xfce since I'm familiar with it from Mint. I'll copy my BOINC data off the Jetson first since I may blow up Ubuntu...

I have the stock BOINC running. For now the Jetson will only run SETI. Out of the box SETI isn't using the GPU, is this expected? Since I new at this, any tips for setting up the Jetson? Any custom binaries to speed computation?

I can report that the HDMI emulator works as advertised. Reports itself in the configuration settings as a display which allows you to select the display resolution you want to use. After installing the emulator and rebooting, I could remote in via VNC connection by Remmina and have the desktop the proper size. A cheap and easy solution for headless use of the Nano.

I run my Jetson headless, I also use an HDMI dummy plug. I chose x11vnc VNC because it works with Real VNC Viewer on my Mac. I had to change x11vnc's setup to accomodate Ubuntu not using the standard home directory Xauthority location.

There aren't any aarch64 gpu binaries for Seti. I don't have the skill to compile the gpu binaries yet. I got a gpu aarch64 binary from one of the Einstein developers that he gave me and I am running the einsteinbinary_BRP4 gpu application under anonymous platform. It uses the Tegra X1 gpu of the Nano. I run the cpu apps for Seti and Einstein on the Nano along with the Einstein gpu app.

My goal is to learn how to compile the gpu apps for Seti for the aarch64 platform.

question I am trying to get answered. I am new to all of this, Raspberry PI, LINUX, etc. I would like to get additional PI's and let them run BOINC. But I don't want to have multiple keyboards and monitors. I found an article
on instructables on how to install VNC to allow remote access the PI from my PC. I couldn't get it to work and am trying to figure out where I screwed up. I know nothing about networks so the learning curve for me is steep.
I am on the Einstein,com, Instructables.com, and Element 14 websites trying to piece together information. Does anybody know of anything written on how to network Raspberry PI's so you can remote access from a PC?

Hi Phil,

Did you start the VNC server on the Pi itself?

If not, you need to start a terminal and type:
1.) "sudo raspi-config" without the quotes
2.) select 5 Interfacing Options
3.) select P3 VNC

#3 is used to enable/disable a VNC server for remote access with RealVNC.

The Pi has a default VNC server installed but not activated. You need to run the raspi-config utility as Siran described. Then just use the default Remmina VNC viewer installed in Ubuntu or one of the many VNC viewers available for Windows to connect to the Pi remotely. All you need is the IP address that the Pi is using to connect to your network.

After following Keith's advice to get VNC running I suggest modifying /boot/config.txt so VNC will always use the same screen size. An alternative is to buy an HDMI dummy plug that convinces the RPI that a display is attached.

Edit /boot/config.txt using sudo, I used the command:

 sudo nano /boot/config.txt

Uncomment the line with hdmi_group and add a line so you have this:

hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=50

hdmi_mode=50 is 1440x900, which is a good size for the VNC windows on my Macs. I forget where online the hdmi_modes are documented...

I have Sense HATs on all three of my RPis. I wrote a Python script that graphically displays core and memory usage, temperatures, humidity, and also pings my computers to see if they're alive. I added the ping when a cheap notebook hung too often. I could glance at the Sense HAT and tell when it died. It got so bad I scrapped it.

Hi Sam,

You can start a terminal and type "sudo raspi-config" and select 7 Advanced Options, then select A5 Resolution to select a resolution. I have my Pis set to 1K.
