Personal background |
I'm semi-retired, started in IT in 1980 as a bit-banger on Data Generals writing real time code.
Grew up in New Jersey, lived & went to U of M in Ann Arbor on & off for 8 years. Ended up In Washington State, finished my degree at UW and worked there on & off from 1988 through 2018.
I have too many hobbies... The latest was rescuing two de-lidded Xeon X5570s by putting them in an old 1U server board and setting it up with Linux. It took some humongous 6" high heat sinks to get fan speeds low enough so the noise is tolerable. I've worked in mainframe type rooms, I don't want to do that again... |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
The heyday of science was the 60s race to the moon. Sadly now we don't invest enough in the sciences unless it's for commercial purposes. I contribute to SETI@home, Rosetta@home, Einstein@home, and World Community Grid to add my meager contributions. |
