I work nights so am used to sleeping with the sun occasionally creeping in the window:-) Light, noise or vibration does not wake me, the only problem I have is finding alarms that are capable of waking me:-( Kevin |

Get a Google Home system to announce "Honey, I have you credit card and going shopping now." That should wake you up :-) |

Get a Google Home system to announce "Honey, I have you credit card and going shopping now." LOL. Yep that should do it. I have the opposite affliction. I need quiet and a very dark room to have any chance of sound sleep. I used to work nights sometimes and learned the tricks of shooters ear plugs and a sleep mask. -[ snip ]- Hi Keith, Ah, so it's not the RGB LEDs doing the actual harm, but the software that controls the RGB LEDs. Now that makes a hell of a lot more sense. The only RGB my new build has is on the motherboard; 8 LEDs on one edge of the board. I am using ASUS's Aura software. I do believe I will be uninstalling Aura and turning off the RGB. Or maybe just leave the RGB at default, since it's minimal and doesn't really bother me that much. I actually think that all the RGB put on ALL the components of a PC is kinda stupid. There's no real benefit to it except bragging rights as to who's looks the best and brightest. Thanks for clearing this up for me Keith! :) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. -[ snip ]- Hi Siran. Yes it is the software that does the damage. Aura has had lots of issues since launch. I think there have been a dozen or so firmware/software updates for the product. Best thing to do is to set the RGB configuration that you want with the software, then uninstall the software leaving the last configuration in place. Same goes for any other RGB software, set the lightshow you want then uninstall the control software. It even has a popup caution explaining the problem. [ snip ]- My RAM doesn't have RGB. Only the motherboard does and I didn't buy it because of the RGB. It was bundled with the i7 8700 CPU. It seems harder to get components that don't have RGB anymore. Too bad so many would rather their PC "look bitchin' " or is that "sick" in today's terminology? Rather than work correctly. The only attention to aesthetics I did was to make sure my RAM coordinated with the black / white / silver of the motherboard. I didn't want the sticks to be red, blue, green or any other color other than the silver they are. ;) BTW, I have never, do not and will not overclock any part of my builds. ;) Have a great day, Keith! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? Hi, late to the party. Read about the AURA, a question, the problem is with ASUS MB only or with others MB?. I use MSI MB and use AURA to control the RGB RAM Leds & the GPU (1070) Leds. |

Any software that access the SMB bus at the same time causes issue. The Aura software accesses the SMB bus to control the RGB hardware. The only software that can safely access the SMB bus with another program running is both HwInfo and SIV since both utilize a locking mutex on the SMB bus that prevents any other software from accessing the bus when they are accessing the bus. So they prevent corruption of data. Not so with any other software like Aura or Thaiphoon Burner or Ryzen Timing Checker or AISuite3 or Corsair Link or NZXT Grid. All of these programs can cause corruption of data flowing across the SMB bus because they will access the bus at the same time as another program. This can cause corruption of the SPD firmware tables in RAM for instance. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

this has been very informative. my gaming machine always keeps "losing" the Aura RGB settings. i guess i'll set it and just unstall the software. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

Ray is a great guy and top notch software developer. Just goes to show how petty and childish the Corsair software team is. Glaring example of "not invented here, so not or never acknowledged" syndrome or can't take the heat of calling out bad work or coding. I'll give another big 'paws up' to Ray. I could not imagine not having his SIV tool now that I have been using it for a long time. He has always been prompt in answering the few questions I have had, and provided tips on where to find some info I was looking for that was already there. Hard to imagine anybody having issue with his expertise other than them being unwilling or incompetent to improve their product based on his wisdom. Love your SIV, Ray! Been a little bit busy these last couple of days. its funny where all the time goes when you take a couple of days off. It looks like I am getting problems on this machine with AURA, I have found a couple of times a lighting file busying up the processor and slowing down WU processing. it will be removed in due course. I have been playing with the new machine's bios, very cautiously, because I am not the best person to be playing in there, got the memory now running at the proper speed, still got to prod the processor its running under load a little slow, but atm I am also having problems with the water temps. Room is getting a little warmer than expected and loop temps are showing up to 35c when external temps are 23 - 24c. Got another rad on order, should be here tomorrow, will be splitting the GPU loop - fitting a pair of quick coupler's on the back of the case and making up an external rad that can be used either indoors or out or looped out when not needed. Any recommendations for CPU + GPU temp monitoring software under W10, TThrottle does not pick up CPU temps on Threadripper. Seti is set to use 88% of CPU's which is giving me 24 CPU WU's and 4 GPU WU's, and the processor according to task manager is running between 87 and 92%. Kevin |

For Windows use I would recommend without question that you get SIV (System Information Viewer) by Ray Hinchcliffe. It is an all-in-one Swiss Army Knife application. I use it to control the gpus and to monitor absolutely everything in my systems SIV - System Information Viewer Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Curious how the program handled showing 32 cores in your Ripper? Did it show them vertically or spread out horizontally? Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |
