Message 1872566 - Posted: 12 Jun 2017, 13:20:46 UTC

Hi to all,

On my Windows machine, I just downloaded and installed BOINC & SETI. I received a load of tasks, as per my preferences.

I then attempted to install the optimised applications written by Lunatics. This installation seemed to go as planned but on restarting the BOINC Manager, the expected completion time has gone up significantly and the application showing as running the work units is "Local setiathome_v8 8.00" - which I am pretty sure it didn't say before I attempted the switch.

Does anyone have any idea what I did wrong, how to fix it, or revert to the stock application?

TIA,

Steve.

I would wait and see what the actual completion times are..........
I am guessing that with the new apps being installed, Boinc is not sure how they shall perform so the estimated times get blown out of whack. If the apps are performing properly, those estimated times should start to come down as completed tasks validate.
You may not have done anything wrong.

Steve,
It will take at least a day for the "time estimate" to actually begin to reflect what is actually going on. The renaming that you saw is exactly what I have after I installed Lunatix.

Steve,
Your computers are "hidden" so we can't take a look at your Gflops for instance and compare them to others/ours to see if it looks like you are getting reasonable performance.

All in all, I expect that in less than a week you should see reasonable speed ups.

Please note, the Lunatix SOG installed from the Beta6 installer uses a different name for the mb*sog.txt file so if you have installed the Lunitix beta6 installer you will need to copy your command line over to get maximum performance.

Unhidden - that box hasn't completed any units yet. It'll be running overnight for the next few days so a comparison can be made between that and the same box that runs Kali Linux during the day.

BOINC won't update your APR till you have produced 11 good and validated tasks for each application.

Does a message/notice saying "SETI@Home: Notice from server; Unknown app name setiathome_v7 in app_info.xml" have something to do with this?

It means you are using a VERY OLD version of the Lunatics Installer. Use Beta6.

I used the v0.44 installer for Windows as that's what the KWSN page recommended. Where should I look? Can you post me a link?

Here in the forum. Open Beta test: SoG for NVidia, Lunatics v0.45 - Beta6 (RC again)

And that only goes up to the r3557 SoG app. You will have to go to Crunchers Anonymous or Mike's World to get the latest r3584 SoG app and hand edit into your app_info.

Thanks for the help, all. I'll get the download done tomorrow - I suspect I'm just running the stock app at the moment due to my downloaded optimised app being out of date.

OK - I have the Beta 6 link (it doesn't work but I'll figure that out) - but what do you mean by this manual edit? Is there another download I need to make?

You'll need 7-Zip to unpack that download from Mike's downloads and you don't actually need the latest SoG app as quite a few of us are quite happy using r3557. ;-)

Thanks - I'll use the 'old' version - and the link I found was a direct .exe download which was my my ISP wasn't too happy with it. A switch of ISP and it worked fine. ;-)
