I'm still waiting to see the new Update Client for April appear. Every month since July or August has had one. It will likely be in this upcoming Tuesday's pile of updates, but the past few months.. between the 1st and 3rd is when those months have had their new update clients released, so why not this month as well? Oh, right.. because I bet there's so much new crap being added in these iterations that it falls into the category of being released on Patch Tuesday. Just my hunch. Guess we'll see how that pans out.

That may be so. But, is there data mining and theft of it and passwords and tracking in Linux or any other non-Window$ 10 OS? ;)

Greetings JE,

I don't have a Window$ phone. I use my smart phone for 2 things: generating a security code needed for logging into World of Warcraft and... (drum roll please...) a phone. I don't check my email or 'surf' the Internet with my phone. If I didn't need the security authorization app for WoW, I'd go back to a real cell phone. I suppose I could get the app for my tablet, but that would be a pain since I keep it plugged in for doing SETI Beta and the cable is too short to bring it to my desk.

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

Guess what showed up once again, our "favorite" compatibility patches un-hidden by them once again.

Pray tell... What new foolishness is this?

A new pan-dimensional Redmond Blue-Screen-of-Death and Malware?...

Windows 10 debuts Blue QR Code of Death – and why malware will love it

Interesting idea but we can imagine the downside...

... We'll wait to see where Redmond's engineers take this. ®

The "QR" code is an interesting idea. The completely unguarded possibilities are bound to be exploited by others other than just Redmond...

In my meager humble opinion: Obvious BONKERS!

IT is what we allow it to be...?

A big bunch of updates today, are they all inoffensive? :?

And this optional update is very suspicious:

You're right.. that one IS suspicious. So much so that it doesn't seem to exist, yet you have it in your list.

The other plain "update for windows 7" (3148851) is just new time zone rules for Russia.

The security update for IE11 seems to be real this time, without Win 10 advertisement - i'm not sure? :?

Yes, that looks safe this time around.

I just refreshed WSUS and 3147071 shows up there, as well. I clicked the "more information" URL for it and was brought to the same page that gives the frown face. So that one has been denied for the time being.

One thing I'm a bit surprised about is that there is not an Update Client for April 2016 yet. Maybe that is what 3147071 is supposed to be? It is ~20mb, so whatever that update is.. it does a lot of stuff.

Just checkout its corresponding site: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3147071

When the updates are just released, their description isn't always already available on the Microsoft pages. So then you get the 'page cannot be found' message.

When you look now at your link, you'll see it's an update for:
Connection to Oracle database fails when you use Microsoft ODBC or OLE DB Driver for Oracle or Microsoft DTC in Windows

Meanwhile the link for the suspicious update leads to a real site:

Seems to be a bigger update related to problems with the connection to an oracle database.

I see that now. I'm leaving it declined/hidden. I don't need to connect to Oracle DBs anyway.

Good to see that the Malware developers are striving for unfettered cross-platform compatibility! Why can not 'normal' software be so easily run on any OS and on any of your hardware?

Considering the Windows platform... Perhaps obscure and easily exploited QR-codes would not be needed in the first place if the Windows platform was more reliable in the first place and gave more Human meaningful error codes in any case...

American Homeland Security warns about Quicktime for Windows.

As Apple is no longer issuing update patches for this program in Windows, it is extremely vulnerable to hacking, there are features that have been identified that can be used to steal personal data and conscript your files. It is recommended that the program be uninstalled on any machine running ANY version of Windows..

Hi,

In regard your tag line:

"People who worry that the glass is half full or half empty miss the point. The glass is refillable."

As an Engineer, I would modify it as follows... :)

"People who worry that the glass is half full or half empty miss the point. The glass is twice as big as it needs to be."

From https://blogs.microsoft.com/iot/2016/04/22/hannover-messe-2016-epicenter-of-industrie-4-0/

IAV Automotive Engineering is using Windows 10 Continuum to stream Windows 10 and all its applications directly to intelligent mobile dashboards. This new offering can integrate data and services such as Microsoft Office 365 or Cortana, becoming a personal assistant to drivers through a notebook, tablet, or smartphone.

At Hannover Messe, IAV and Microsoft will demonstrate a concept solution that enables communication to help prevent accidents. Known as “vehicle-2-x” communication (V2X), the approach uses data from the vehicle’s surroundings to improve convenience and enhance safety by anticipating and mitigating potential hazards.

Other things in the InternetOfThings world to be using Windows 10 are intelligent fridges, intelligent lampposts, your smart car, smart buildings, etc. etc.
You really won't be able to miss out on any of this great stuff!
Just check https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/iot for the endless possibilities, like the Raspberry Pi 3 board with Windows 10 IoT Core.
