Grew up with ferretts as my brother had 2.

One, if I laid on the floor on my side, would crawl up the back of my shirt and scratch my back. Always found the perfect spot. She was a kisser too

They certainly are heaps of fun to play with and so funny to watch.

@ Bob No I haven't seen them do the ball trick yet.

May depend on how cold it is.

We found this swan sitting on its nest just a few feet from a busy walkway in Ironbridge England. I suppose it thought the place was good since there were all sorts of food handouts lying around.

Well at least no one wants any pics of a Cat Squeezer then, but then I don't have any.

John, that is lovely!!! Were you out of the country for Independence Day? One of my most memorable Fourth of Julys was enjoying Moroccan food with an ex-pat friend in London. No fireworks, imagine that!!!

Actually, this was from our recent trip. Ironbridge is a fairly small town and this swan was not very far from the middle of it, a few feet from the river, but closer to the walkway between the center of town and one of the museums.

It appears that a fair number of people had made food offerings as there was some uneaten bread lying within easy reach. Yes, I know bread is not the best for water fowl, but it does mean that she might never have to leave the nest until her cygnets were ready.

The fireworks displays around here here are much too crowded, and we did not go out.

I was able to watch live fireworks that were shot up over Barstow CA from where I live that's 12.5 miles away and sometimes I'd hear a muffled BOOM too.

Sometimes when I sleep I hear a muffled boom.....
But I suppose that was just my dinner.

In the other direction there were some fireworks that rivaled those over Barstow being shot off, since there is no city in that direction and since Las Vegas is beyond the horizon from here, they were illegal fireworks, but they looked as good as any that I'd seen, even if they were maybe 5-7 miles away.

Well, I was worried that Gigi might have lost all her babies this year due to her leg injury, but all that worry was for nothing.

Please welcome to the world "Marcel" (thank you Dave I), "Maggie" (thank you Dave II) and Donna (thank you Uli-belle). We were unable to get a picture. They're really skittish and Gigi trusts us even less when her babies are scampering around.

By the way Uli, it is a stretch for me to use "Donna" as that was the name of Eric's girlfriend before he met me!!!!!!!

LOL! Thanks Vic, I hope so! I've met Donna. She is quite nice and she is very smart. She worked on the Human Genome Project, so she has sure got my respect and admiration!!!

So, enough about ex-girlfriends! Raccoons are more interesting. I went outside with my little cup of cat food to entice babies. I put some food where "little paws" could reach it, but only Gigi's undamaged paw came out to accept my offering. She did a fair amount of growling at her babies while chewing on the cat food! Anyway, I talked and sang to the babies to sort of get them used to my presence. Then I went inside. Best not to be too forward too fast.

Sounds like a plan, too bad about Gigi's paw.
