There is some noted variability in the ability of flouncers to remain flounced. Speculation as to the flouncer's ability to 'stick the flounce' is a common topic, post-flounce. It is the totally unfair and unwarranted observation of this author--as implied by the above set of reasons for flounces--that flouncing is a particularly common maneuver amongst tone trolls. Looks like tone trolls may be somewhat more likely to flounce than other posters. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

That's my hypocritical tendency. What's yours? OMG!!!!!! Look what the cat dragged in!!! After over a year of having no one to blame, it looks like relief is FINALLY in sight. Welcome home, friend. |

ID -- be honest, you take your *interpretation* of the law to heart and readily dispute any other interpretation as simply being wrong. Let's face it, this form of intellectual absolutism is part of who you are.

ID, would the founders 1) Interpret their writings as you do today and/or 2) Write what they wrote then today? I think not, but, it seems, in a manner consistent from your apparent mind set on other matters as well, you see the Federalist papers as Holy Writ, absolute and not subject to interpretation -- or at least not subject to any interpretation that is at variance with your interpretation. |

ID, would the founders 1) Interpret their writings as you do today and/or 2) Write what they wrote then today? Have you--yourself--read them papers yet? I think not, you would have had your own question answered. |

ID -- yes I have read them -- I have read them aware of their political context at the time. They are glorious writings and quite well attuned to their political context. But you see, my concrete and absolutist interlocutor, times and political context change (something the founders were in fact quite aware of) and that intrusion of reality (which you appear to reject) results in what some (not you certainly) have phrased in describing our constitution as a 'living, breathing' document. This difference of vantage point also manifests in your religious pronouncements. For you these are all absolute and concrete. For me any many of MY co-religionists, the Tenach is a living breathing body of work subject to many different interpretations. In a modern, complex, compound world, there are certainly an intellectual class of people for whom absolute and concrete thinking provides an effective insulation from the outside world. That is ok for them, but when this class of people seeks to propagate their views as the only true faith (or political faith) an inevitable conflict arises. |

In line with the OP, I am pretty far right but I have a hard time defending the death penalty. Maybe in extreme cases like high treason or desertion, but other than that is just seems senseless to me and it stands in contraction to my personal beliefs. |
