Sad, still rationing work and sending the message that power users are no longer needed...At least it seems that way to me...

10/11/2010 7:23:37 AM | SETI@home | Message from project server: This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress

Have a few hours worth of work.

Don't take it personally. A lot of folks, non-power-users included are feeling the restrictions. Look at my stats, I'm nowhere near a power-user, yet I've got 2 seti work units on this computer. I get a new one only when I send one in.

I'll pray to ET for this to happen.

ET won't help you.

He's still trying to find enough bandwidth to phone home. :o)

It seems limits are still in place. If there is going to be an outage, time is running out to load up. These next 4 hours is all I will get before going to bed, and then off to work in the morning. I'm counting down the days at 387 years till I can retire and spend as much time as needed at SETI and Lunatics. :D

I missed something?
This week we don't have a 3 day outage?

My machines have WUs for ~ 1 1/2 days, and get the famous:
Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Message from server: No work sent
Message from server: This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress

How they can get enough WUs for to bridge the 3 day outage? %-(

From what I read we will be having a 3 day outage, as they have more plans to test Morks memory. The limits are still intact, so none of us are going to be able to load up. I could be wrong, but it wouldn't be the first time, nor the last.

It sucks and everyone is sending right away trying to get more so everything is pegged. Had they let people fill their caches it would be normal by now....

I don't think so, It took 4 days just to get most people up to the limit. To fill all caches would have doubled the number of units to be sent out which would have maxxed the server out even more.

Without the limits the cruncher getting the most units would have been "Ghost" and he/she/it gets more than their fair share anyway :-)

Interesting looking at the number of resends I've been getting. Lots of 2's and 3's, a fair few 4's and 5's but the best one is an 8 (been around a bit that one).

For this past weekend the bandwidth was maxed out until late today. It seems to me that the limiting factor is the bandwidth now since the servers did very well. When two (or more) new servers come online we will still be limited by the available bandwidth. Then what??

Having these limits in place is not a problem in my view. It is a mechanism to ensure that everyone gets work. Perhaps not as much as you would like from SETI but there are other projects.

I was wondering about that very thing, it usually only takes about a day and a half for the cricket graphs to show a drop in downloads and a sharp increase in uploads which usually indicates everyone has hit the limit. My guess would be that a lot of people have figured out how to re-schedule around the limit.

Well I had set SETI for NNT but seeing as milkyway has some bad work units, I let some new tasks creep in. The download went fast for a meager .75 day cache that i just had to try a 3 day cache. For once in many weeks the download didnt take hours only a scant few minutes. Cant say if i did get 3 days worth but i got a boat load.

Hmm, strange... I got about 5150 WU's for my Crunchy and now I get the message "This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress".
That's enough for 10 days (a lot of VHARS) so I don't get it why some people don't get any work.

When I look at tasks it says I have 13041 tasks, most of them are ghosts (and pending?)...

I seem to remember from another thread that the scheduler must also be running.

Also, from the server status page:

scheduler: Determines what work is going to be sent to/received from requesting clients.

and the scheduler shows as not running.

Disclaimer: I am not an expert but, reading these threads, I am learning, I think.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Uploads can still go through without the scheduler service running, you just can't report them. From what I can tell according to the status page, you should still be able to upload. However, I'm not sure what their procedure for the outages is. They may have a link disabled somewhere preventing the connections. So while the upload server might be up and running, it might not actually be able to do anything.

AFAIK, MW@h test currently new CPU apps.
Why they have no BETA under project - like S@h have? ;-)

The MW@h 0.24 cuda23 (GPU app) should work smoothly.

didn't get anywhere near 5k wus...just got about 1k for each cruncher...enough to cover the outage (just) and yet i had the cache set to 10/10...

...damn that "limit on taks in progress"...it is annoying particularly after recent events ... would have been nice if they had opened the gates ...
