Good evening everyone!

Andy Worth recently announced here that his travel plans this summer involve some time in the SF Bay Area. Andy and his traveling companion have arranged for a Seti tour at 4pm on Sunday 6/20 at the Space Sciences Lab in Berkeley. Afterward there will be a barbecue at our home, along with an evening of Raccoon Feeding and General Raccoon Entertainment. Any friends of Andy who can get to the Bay Area that Sunday are most cordially invited to join us for the tour and barbecue. We are calling this little celebration "Andyfest USA"!

Uli has already reserved the guest room in our home, but if you need a place to stay, I can help make arrangements.

If you and your significant others wish to attend, RSVP by pm to me and I will send you all the details.

Fondly,
Angela

P.S. Only two things could potentially cause a change in plans. The first is that darn volcano. The second is the fact that I have a very ill brother who may need me at short notice. Barring bad news from either source, we are going full steam ahead with party planning!!!

Ooooh. A party! Wish I could come. So near my birthday too!

I'd love to come too, But It's a bit of a drive and I'll need to replace the alternator, 2 tires, change the oil and fix the A/C, So I'm out as I don't need to stress the car too much.
(I turn the headlights on and My panel/radio lights go dim as do My cars external lights, relay seems to work as the interior lights are bright when the headlights/marker lights/turn signals are all off, So It sounds like an alternator problem)

Might not be the alternator. It may well be the regulator. If you battery isn't discharging to the point you need to jump the car then some charge is happening hence my thought of the regulator. I'm am assuming you have checked for loose connections, which is the most likely cause for that symptom. Also possible a rectifier in the alternator.

I'm not having problems with the battery currently(no pun intended) as the car starts(As I'm seeing a drop in electrical output when more load is added), As to the regulator, I don't know, I'd have to have Barstow Tire and Brake do some testing on the electrical system, For the moment I'm not able to do that, So no night driving for awhile, Like October at the earliest. I noticed when the turn signals were active that the radio panel lights would be bright and then a little less bright and this was with the headlights off of course. Also when driving home at night the headlights looked dim and the speedometer and other instruments were barely readable and when I passed under a light they became unreadable, they are that dim.

In any case I'm getting sleepy and I need to turn in and get some shut eye. Night all, See Ya all on the flip side.

Andy, I would skip Bodie and spend the extra time at Mono and Yosemite.
JMHO

I know, I know. So much to do, so little time etc etc. We're there for just over 2 weeks this year and it's still not enough time to fit it all in LOL.

I have done Bodie before, a couple of years ago, so know all about the car wrecking roads - I'll be in a rental car though, which if memory serves me right, means that they are indestructible and don't suffer any damage, ever.

Heck, I'm even going to have another shot at getting to the Race track in Death valley this year - I failed last year as the dirt road had been washed away by a flash flood and nothing but the biggest SUV could get through (I tried, but stuffed the hood into the track and decided it was too deep :D )

Likewise. Just hope this Volcano shuts the heck up now so we can fly out! The problem being that due to the time of year the airlines aren't postponing flights, they are cancelling them, so if yours doesn't go - you aint going anywhere without a new booking maybe days or weeks later, which of course couldn't happen logistically due to leave restrictions, the number of different hotels we have booked etc.

That's Father's Day! Would love to come to Berkeley but we have a little tradition of going on a Brunch cruise that day. Oh well I will have to try another day.

As for rental cars never falling apart! I rented one in Panama. Brand new Nissan with only about 400 miles on it. I thought I would see how close to Columbia I could get on the Pan-American Highway. First the A/C died when one of the hoses ruptured. It had worn thur due to vibration. Then a wheel and tire fell off. Easy Fix. Finally the gas tank fell out. Made some rope out of a vine I found. (Remember this is the rain forest.) Tied the tank back in and decided I had gone too far already.

I was not charged for damage to the car. The rental agent chaulked it up to factory defect, it was a new car (well before me it was.)

Well I think plenty of people on both sides of Iceland want that dumb beast to just go back to sleep, Like for the next 500,000 years. :D Bob(the Manager here) uses an AMC made Jeep Cherokee 4x4 similar to this one here for the back country.

Good Luck and don't get stuck, Make sure You take some water with You, There are drinkers out there(Bob and a few others maintain them for the local wildlife: Big Cats(Puma, Mountain Lion), Bobcats, Coyotes, Big Horn Sheep, etc.), But I have no idea where they are, To reach them You'd need a 4x4 most likely or a good pair of hiking boots, water and such(Not like I'd hike anywhere out here, reminds Me of Mad Dogs and Englishman).

That sounds similar to my trip a couple of years ago. I had a Cadillac DTS with just delivery miles on the clock. The A/C failed on that in the desert, then it over heated (boiled over) in Palm Springs. Got it fixed up and the oil warning indicator came on while climbing a mountain pass in Yosemite. I was relieved to make it to San Fran, where dealing with another breakdown wasn't going to be such a problem - although of course, it never happened once we were back in civilisation.

They are all the things that make mammoth road trips interesting though. Our car never broke last year fortunately.

Lots of repairs/maintenance to Mine are scheduled for My zx2 in the coming months, I wish I didn't have to as It's getting in My way, But It's needed, So what can I do? Nothing but push on and get work done as I can and push on towards one of My goals. :D
