I lived in Las Vegas for about 6 years, and I want you to know that it is suggested that you take a least a gallon of water for each person in your car, if you plan to leave the city limits during the summer. Several people die each year in the desert from exposure when their cars get stuck or break down. You should be aware of flash flooding which can be sudden and deadly, when it rains. Plan your trip carefully, because the desert can be dangerous. Have fun Pellinore |

I will tell a story about a real monster, seen with my own eyes. I was a member of this diving club that went every two weeks to various spots on the West Coast of Scotland and North Coast of Ireland. Not enough for some of us, it had to be weekly sometimes twice weekly, we couldn't get enough. The loch we chose for our midweek nightdive was Loch Fyne. A sweet little dive called Anchor Spot. Darn hard to find on the dark single track road down the loch side, treacherous hairpins all the way. We quickly kitted up and plunged in as the last rays of the spring sun were but a memory in the sky. There were three of us, I was slightly in front and the other's were just behind about 10m, the visibility was great as there had been no rain for a week. I saw little wildlife of note on the way down, but at last I reached the rocky reef. I was still 15m above the bottom when a jewel caught my eye, it was a baby lobster beautifully camouflaged against the rock. A single diamond like jewel appearance in the mid section. It was barely longer than a pinky nail but amazingly beautiful. Suddenly a light danced around me, it was one of my buddies signaling from 5m above. Darn, oh well that's what computers are for, slowly I worked my way up. I was straddling a crevice about 1m wide. I looked over at one of my buddies and the look on the face and the hidden smile made me look down again, looming up from under me was an incredibly large conger. Battlescarred and looking kinda hungry. I decided it would be better to kneel beside our companion already in place. I hadn't noticed the crab in Rusty's hand at first. It was huge, I was already thinking about a dash of lemon perhaps when to my horror a crab big enough to feed 2 went flying down into the crevice, the conger lunged forward it's gaping maw open and wham the crab literally exploded in its jaws. Bits were drifting around us in the current. Sadly no camera. They say Congers when they reach maturity head off for the Madeira Islands to breed. I think this creature though decided Loch Fyne seafood too much to resist and stuck around for years. The smaller ones you can feed by hand but I don't think this character was a safe bet. To give you an idea I estimate the fellow I met was twice as big as the one you see in this pic.. Balveda ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Oh sure so you say. The monster can clearly be seen " in your own photo " traveling at a break neck speed from left to right! |
