What are the point of TEAMS? Is there or is it just kinda for fun? Feel free to enlighten me :).

It's just for fun, while you are a member of a team, your credits are added not only to your total, but the team's as well.

Some of the teams also have websites with special features for thier members. Things like games, message boards, additional stats, etc. As you suggest the teams are just for fun, but you might find a team with members who share your opinions, hobbies, etc. It's an attempt to add to the crunching experence.

Maybe I'm biased, but the Team Canada Forum has a lot of interesting topics, and interesting people. I spend a lot of time there these days, adding to my crunching experience (as someone else said).

BTW,foreigners are welcome.

No need to turn this into a recruiting thread

The members of a project are a collection of people who want to crunch for it, but who otherwise have a random set of attitudes, opinions, social skills, morals and so on.

Members of a team are to a much greater extent self-selected in that we tend to join a team whose other members we find sympatico. People can and do change teams from time to time until they find somewhere they feel comfortable. Also, the teams tend to be present on many projects.

Thus you will find that with time many teams become much more than "other people who like distributed computing," with other shared interests, real-life meetings and so on.

Of course contacts develop between members without a team being involved as well, but teams can become strong social hubs.

The other nice thing about many of the Teams is that their Forum moderators aren't so uptight.

Probably because the Regents of the University of California won't be held liable if the forum doesn't meet certain University standards.

Hei James! ;-) Nice to meet you -
Teams..? I guess its a bit different from one to the other. It
all depends on what you think or feel is most important - There are
teams that are joined toghether by plain technical knowledge or
interest.. or people joined together by nations - or ive even seen
wicca-teams and other teams based on religion. You can find almost
what ever - But I have always ment its mostly about fun - and that
you in a team get to know each other a bit better than in the open forum.
Thats nice of course. Though -
if joining up to somewhere - you can still remain silent - lurking in
the background if thats what you are most comfortable with.. ;-))

I am honestly not sure what Really make people join one team instead of
another - or for how long people are looking for a team before they
find something they like. Because I never looked around - I have been
in the same place from the first day in Seti / Boinc.

I hope you find a nice place to stay ;-)
Good Luck.

It´s fact that this team is not really (not at all) active, in terms of BOINC.
