Thanks Andy for you thoughts and help.
Its much apreciated.
This thread was started by a regular volunteer and not by any from the officials.

So hows about some of you allways asked for free speech.

I think for sure the devs make a very good job in particular thats why i donated again.

I´m not happy with all going around here but thats not the matter of fact here.

Tollerance is the key "allways".

best regards Mike

Why won't i donate ever again?

Because (and i KNOW they really don't like me saying this) of the way i have been treated by this project. I would rather buy a handbag than donate to seti.

Maybe you could donate a handbag to Seti?

There must be aliens out there desperate for matching accessories...

I did come very close to sending Eric and the team a handbag for Christmas.

As someone who has donated in the past to seti since they first started asking for donations, I have been very unhappy the heavy handed way that long time posters and loyalists to the project have been treated by a minority of the moderators here based on old personal grudges rather than reality, logic, common sense and fairness. The admin turn a blind eye into it because these self same people are helping run their funding drive. That is enough alone to ensure I won't ever donate to the project again.

..but I also agree with Brainsmashr. It would be nice to see something actually done with our results.

Personally, I intend to donate something, (though it won't be a lot). I'm disabled, and on social security, and haven't had any 'mocha coffee' from anywhere in over 10 years, (heck, I don't even drink Folgers, or grocery store coffee anymore, cutting that cost meant a few more meals per month!). Honestly, with the little I get, it's hard enough making it from one month to the next. I'd bet I'm not the only one in that position.

However, I am also working on getting a dedicated server up and running out of my old PC parts just for crunching...which just adds more to my expenses, both directly out of pocket in parts, and the costs of electricity and the like.

So far, no one's made me feel any less welcome for not having donated, and I appreciate that greatly, as this is one of only a small handful of forums I bother with, and it is probably the only one I'm truly 'active' in.

So...just another viewpoint in the mix. There are likely others like me out there who may not find it easy to say what I've said. Something to keep in mind. :)

For those in the USA I believe Seti is a tax deductable donation, but for the rest of us it is not. I donate my time and PC resources, and have donated money in the past ($50), but probably wont in the near future.

Hello SETI@home fellows...how are you?
I would like to say why I donated: It is a great project. All the big projects in the past have started the same way: whith a huge amount of illusion and an empty pocket! Christoph Columbus, before sailing to the new world, spent a long time searching for and talking to high status politicians like the king of Portugal and the king of the castillian kingdom, before becoming the united kingdom of Spain (the spanish king was on war with the last focus of islamic possesions in the mainland of Spain, Granada).
Though the state of California is one of the wealthiest territories/political organizations in the world ranking, (its income per person each year) equals to most third world countries budget. Spending 10 or 25$ for someone in Los Angeles is not the same like someone living in Africa or Asia, for example. Should I mention India or China?
The day I bought the book of "Cosmos" by Carl Sagan, it was quite expensive for a teenager....Twenty years later I participate with this project, spending some time, some energy, some CPU resources, with likeminded people and with the certain idea of being a part of a bigger challenge which will bring unexpected fruits (tasty and fresh most of them). It is up to us.
I recently bought a ballpen set, a t-shirt and a laserbeam pen at the SETI Shop: this will settle my balance account for SETI this year probably.
As a distributed computation, it should work as well as distributed finance/budget, which can turn out to become very effective.
No single spending is too short and no single spending is too big!
That´s all I have to say so far......Cheers!

Give me a blue star and I'll donate $10. For goodness sakes, I have dedicated up to 8 PCs at home doing nothing but SETI crunching at times. Do you know how much extra in electricity bills I had to pay for that? It deserves an extra gold star at least!

Still waiting for PayPal. What does temporarily suspended mean? Not to interested in the work around.

Ghallahan

The public version of what happened to the PayPal link was the person running the one link had a health issue and we have little information as to recovery. The part where Seti is setting up 501(c) specifically to handle PayPal is still in the works. My last conversation with Eric is that it is still bound up in UCB Politics. That was from a conversation held while Eric was captive in the back seat of our rental car returning to the Space Science Lab after lunch.

I will add that to the list of questions.

Still waiting for PayPal. What does temporarily suspended mean? Not to interested in the work around.

Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project.
