Message 655990 - Posted: 7 Oct 2007, 22:03:46 UTC - in response to Message 655698.

A tank can be used as a private vehicle so not only a weapon.

Reminds me of a spoof on Frank Miller's Daredevil that Alan Moore did for Captain Britain Magazine (I think) where he took Bullseye's ability to turning anything into a deadly weapon to ridiculous extremes (one such weapon was a cotton bud).

Yes, yes, warships can be used to ferry civilians off Caribbean islands prior to the arrival of a hurricane. Dual use doesn't remove the primary function of a warship, just as civilian use of a tank does not remove a tank's primary function.

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

You could always ask a teacher about what would be considered inappropriate. ;)

After all...if a teacher says or does something not kid friendly we tend to get fired.

I didn't see the gun pic that was deleted though. So I can't really comment. But I don't think pictures of guns on their own would be considered 'not kid friendly' as such. It would really depend on the context.

Oh no... Not the 'context' word...

That's when things that are clearly black or clearly white start to turn into many shades of grey... ;)

Very glad you met up with the reprobate. Me, I'd have kicked his backside.

I think the chocolates were an attempt to soften me up so i wouldn't do just that.

i had a friend - Nick Corea - (in Los Angeles, CA. and who passed on a number

of years ago) that rode a 'modified' tank around L.A. - he was 'slightly'

paranoid about certain individuals that reside in that city . . . and THAT was

quite the 'weapon' per se - even though he didn't use it for malicious context

- though it did Portect him - as he said . . .

> note: there was another person - on the NEWS back years ago - that used a

tank and destroyed quite a number of cars and neighborhoods with the tank -

you may well remember THAT incident eh . . .

There was an 'incident' in Aus earlier this year where a guy drove around in an APC destroying stuff because he was upset with some company (might have been Telstra). The APC was an old one, no 'live' weapons, but still had the gun(s) on it. The police had no idea whether they were real or not. They were not, but how does a cop car stop an APC?

And the vehicle was incorrectly referred to as a tank by most media sources.

Is it in a cartoon or comic that they can read or watch on TV?

If so, then yes. Those smarter than us have said it is suitable for children...

I recently had a post moderated ‘cause it had a picture of Bart Simpson’s naked butt, never mind that the Simpsons is shown daily on TV when plenty of kids are watching. I made my point by re-posting the image with Bart’s little ass blacked out ;-)

My point being that, as a relatively impartial observer of the fights between moderators and posters, I’m thinking that a little common sense on all sides might not go amiss.

@ Mike: I think that Mackenzie’s avatar was of a character from a vampire movie, not Lara Croft. Point taken, though. :-)

Common sense and censorship obviously are incapatable...give them an inch and they'll run a mile with it...just look at government media as an example.

All considerations become political and an us verses them mentality ensues.

Clear example of animal abuse lock ‘em up!

frightening animals could give children nightmares. Please delete!

Suggested violence against rabbits gotta go

suggests pedophilia unacceptable

As for me, well, clear copyright infringement. FOX TV should probably sue me.

(scarcistic mode off)

Or we can all fess up and admit that this thread is about making one moderator look bad. And in the process, we can all toss the baby out with the bathwater.

I wonder, has common sense taken “the last train for the coast"?

So the picture of a hemp leaf, a product with uses that include the manufacture of clothing, and the interior panels of Mercedes-Benz cars, is not child friendly, but a picture of a person wielding a gun is? I'm confused.

And before anybody leaps to the accuse me of hypocrisy, based on my earlier post about primary function, from the hemp link:

industrial Hemp does not contain an amount [of a prohibited substance] to produce any intoxicating effect

(and for those that do not put much by the validity of wikipedia's data, here's a google search that might help)

I'm not a good enough botanist (or, indeed, familiar with the plant) to be able to tell whether the leaf depicted is industrial hemp or some other kind.

Cheers,

Bobby

I am trying to figure out why the " suggested pedophilia " link centered my post in the center of the screen.....lol

I didn't know that children were attracted to Reapers

I think this person is referring to my avatar. Which by the way, is not a real person (the person has cat ears, so they are not even human). It's an anime creation. IT IS NOT REAL. And if that suggests evil, there are plenty of other avatars that suggest 'pedophilia' more than mine.

But if it is such a problem then get rid of all avatars. Problem solved.

And dwilson, your avatar could suggest that fatness and obesity are okay. Is that not something for children to avoid? So your's has to go as well.
