Hey ICE, people crunch what they want to crunch. It's called freedom of choice. Climate is a good cause. So you make your own choice and crunch the projects you feel are best for you. How does that fit in with you sarcastic comment about SETIsupporters supporting falling RACs? Are you taking a dig at my falling SETI RAC? Are you taking a dig at where I choose to crunch? flaming balloons |

But you know about these technical things don't you KM, which is why you criticize so easily. You said "Going off and hiding on your own forums without having a set goal doesn't seem all the supportive." I can only assume you were talking about the SETIsupporters name when you talked about being supportive. flaming balloons |

But you know about these technical things don't you KM, which is why you criticize so easily. Take it as you wish, Ice. I was simply making a statement on how I saw things. There was no intentional dig at the name of your group. Sheesh.....what the hell is it with people taking stuff I say out of context lately. Seems like EVERYONE is spoiling for a fight with me for some damn reason. Air Cold, the blade stops; from silent stone, Death is preordained Calm Chaos Forums : Everyone Welcome |

You're the joke Misfit who thinks as a moderator you can get away with this sort of criticism and claim ridiculing others is a joke. You really are a sorry example for a moderator. flaming balloons |

@Misfit:
I only have what nature or god gave me and I oft misunderstand things but with my greatest respect that does look like negative innuendo (implication) to me (No I'm not a member of SETI*Supporters.) Be interesting to hear what it really meant as I often get con-fussed. @The Original Topic Of Thread: Part of the problem with this thread is that it took such a long time to get to the point. I kept coming back because I like some of the things Knightmare says but I ended up just 'twiddling my thumbs' ('with nothing to do'). I'm quite glad looking at things that I never posted before now either :o)~ Knightmare (Message 621691) is right that there are lots of already made forums. One downside of having so many forums is that people can get spread out too thinly making community hard to sustain for them. If the Cafe was more 'ANY' member friendly they would always have a place to come to at the centre BUT sometimes I wonder where 99% of the many thousands of SETI crunchers go as they certainly don't even post a 'hello' here! Knightmare is also right that open door policies do have a great benefit in drawing new members in. Forums obviously make their own choices about being open or closed as there are benefits on both sides for different people in different situations. Openess at SETI Cafe though is not always a matter of an open door. Sometimes openess is about "being inviting" as a place, forum, people, teams. I haven't posted on Knightmare's Calm Chaos Forums but I have poped in once in a while to be nosey and it looks a lively and great forum. It is 'inviting' in the best sense. From what I have seen here and in Calm Chaos we would do well to appreciate what they have achieved. Every group is different but the main similarity about those groups that keep on functioning well is not whether their is moderation or not but the values, efforts, attitudes and hopes of the core and developing membership and mods (if any). As to whether groups of like minded people want to have another non-seti-team but seti-issue-minded community forum of their own... Well that is their choice and if they enjoy each others company or find support away from the SETI 'Officially Sanctioned' groups that can't be a bad thing. They are after all still active as main SETI members. It shows that at the very least the SETI Cafe is functioning as a place where some can find friendships and common grounds regardless of what team they belong to. That's a plus for me. Now my thumbs are un-twiddled at last :o) |

I thought he meant 'cause all our RACs are declining these days ... mine has, Seti doesn't always seem to have projects for me, so lately, I don't get in much crunching even though my computer is on ... hence my RAC is dropping. I'm not trying to defend Misfit, but maybe he wasn't trying to be malicious, even if it was a stupid joke. |

Friends, Setizens, forumners, lend me your ears; I come to blame Misfit, not to praise him. The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones; So let it be with Misfit. Blame Misfit! |

Take it as you wish, Ice. I was simply making a statement on how I saw things. Please don't fight guys. There really is no need to. I was invited to the seti supporters forums and it is just a place where people can sound off and say what they want without fear of it starting a flame war or being moderated. All of us there have very similar concerns, which I think you would share and understand. Reality Internet Personality |
