It's that both of you find my mind attractive, but for different reasons. ;)

Me.,

Age: Old enough to write & type.
    Gender: Me.
Country: Born in UK but European by blood.
Religious / Philosophy: I breath the same air all of you do. Not religious. Not Agnostic. Not Atheist.

I'd of been far more interested in the educational and socio-ecconomic background of SETI members.

My question would be whether Berkeley & SETI would ever be interested in reaching out to the working classes (60 or 70 percent) of the world's population to raise it's crunching ability?

85% of our higher education facilities are filled with middle class students.

If we did a real poll of the SETI populus I think we would find a similar statistic.

If we did a gender based comparison I am also sure we would find a low number of females.

If we took a look at english to non-english speaking people we will find the same disparity disregarding the world balance for languages.

If we looked at colour of skin we may also feel ashamed.

Can we take your post as the start of a good set of questions and broaden them?

What was the reasoning or hypothesis behind these questions?

In the evolution of my Mr. Wizard thread, I had posed the question as to what the median age of a Seti cruncher was. The rest was her idea.

Pshaw! You can trust Kenzie! I sent her my waist size and all, by PM.

It's not that I don't trust Kenzie. I just wouldn't want certain details to make it to the wrong sources.

I'm male, between 1 and 99. Between 5 and 6 feet high.

Thanks krys. Wynde, Bird-Dog, Gregg-Bee, John McCallum, Fuzzy Hollynoodles, Hiamps, Es99, Blurf, and Hey.
As for cRunchy and A/C…Not quite sure how to record your responses ;)

Sorry to all for not being as attentive to this thread as I should be, but I’ve a nasty weekend work schedule and can only check it once or twice/day.

It’s nice to see a couple of women joining in…’twas starting to get awfully lonely in here

Welcome krys! Here’s a little trick I’ve learned: you can private message yourself and experiment with bbcode that way without anyone knowing about it.;)

Okay, since my last post I have added Jim S, Mike, Chris S. A.I, Guherun, thorin, mikey, msattler, ThePhantom86 and assorted Pms.

Though I’m not recording it, I love all the extra little details you guys are adding! And even better, people I've never met before.

Thanks, and keep it coming.

What does that give you for total responses?? And where is the cutoff? We know that there are lots of folks who don't normally respond on the forums.

Just keep the survey going until you stop getting PM's or responses here??

Just curious. :-)

Up to 35 responses so far. I hope to keep it going for a couple of weeks, or 'till people stop posting. Then I'll post the age/gender/country results.

EDIT Since there are thousands of people who crunch for SETI and probably only a few hundred who normally come into the Cafe any project like this is limited and not meant to be anything more than fun :)

The reason for the age question is in the Mr Wizard thread. The gender and nationality questions are out of nothing more than my curiosity. The faith question was simply a baaaaaddddd idea (sorry)
As for the rest of the information: people just seem to be tagging stuff on.

As for using the thread to broaden the questions: feel free. The thread is public and open to mining by anyone with an interest.

Information given to me through the PM systems is, however, confidential and is between me and those people. Sorry, but I'm very strict about that!

Also this is not, in any way, meant to be a serious study. Just idle curiosity and fun :))

Sorry. I tend to form most of what I say in a direct way. No insult meant.

But wouldn't you like to know how many females were involved in SETI and their backgrounds?

Go on.. please say yes :o)

For a wee baby, you have a wonderfully smutty mind ;))

I do like the idea that people are sharing information about themselves. It is easy to get into flameing people when we only see them as avatars. But when people realize that there is a real human being on the other keyboard it makes us pause and consider what we type (I hope!)

I might be a wee baby but smutty stuff were never my first thoughts.

Flaming... No.. Did I do that :(

I would love to be more than erudite. I'm not I guess.

I just asked if we could ask more than we already knew.

No one steps up.. even you...

Please show me where I flamed or mistreated anyone or else my post will get moderated.

I want all of us to be equally blessed.

I will happily step out of this thread now.
