And even if you were, you likely couldn't get a massive corporate tax rate cut past Congress. I have no idea what you mean. The tax and regulatory burden is so high that companies fight like hell to get everything they can overseas where the U.S. gov't can't touch it. That just makes good fiscal and economic sense--whether you think it's fair or not. Cordially, Rush elrushbo2@theobviousgmail.com Remove the obvious... |

And even if you were, you likely couldn't get a massive corporate tax rate cut past Congress. Exchange "the U.S. gov't" with "any government in a decently big developed country" and you're right. The "problem" are the countries that finally want their share of the world economy as well. They deserve this share of course, in the end there should not be any difference between all countries, but now they can "compete" better because of sub-standard protection for workers/environment and worse infrastructure. And there are those that are small enough compared to official banking/holding "economy" pretending to have a business in them to tax those properly, as even a meager share in whatever fees they get is sufficient to let them live off other peoples work. Any "expenditure" to "businesses" in these counties are obviously just fake for the books and should not be deductable from any tax income in any country. With a bigger base for necessary taxes the comparative amount every entity has to pay would go down. But as these tax havens are the holy cows of the big business nobody will touch them, be them Delaware, Cayman, Jersey, Zug or whereever. "The murder capital of America is New Orleans" with 9.9 murders per 100,000 people. Wrong ! (it's the second) D.C. where they make our laws and tell us what kind of guns WE can have has 35.4 murders per 100,000. Why dont they clean up their OWN damned nest before they preach to US ? World Almanac 2007 Careful Lester, you'll set off the whole pro-gun squad again who think the solution to a high murder rate is to pump more guns into the area. It's funny though that the people who are so pro gun are the ones that fear being shot the most themselves. I have to say that being shot is not something I think is likely to happen to me at all. Es you are just a skinny woman. you dont know anything about important manly stuff. I just presented some numbers. I took no position. But riddle me this. Which bar would you rather go to. One bar where everybody has a gun, except you. Or a bar where nobody has a gun except for one guy. |

Well to be honest the first one sounds scarier.. the more people with the guns, the more likely it is that one of them will be a nutcase. I would not want to step foot in a place where lots of people were drinking and were armed. I think I would rather carry on going to bars where no one has a gun thanks. :-) Reality Internet Personality |

Everybody is SO polite because they know. |

World Almanac 2007 Oh that was thinly veiled sarcasm ! Its easy everywhere but it is getting harder. Now we have to take a gun class, wait 2 weeks, and sign a form saying we arnt felons or insane.......what could go wrong ? But we can buy explosives at any local hardware store |

Their countries, their choice. And really, that isn't true. Because it's "sub-standard" to you has no real bearing--often they are very small countries that realize that their size/population doesn't matter for financial transactions, as you noted below. They don't need punitive tax rates or crushing regulation. Yay, more empty ideology. Tax codes are by fiat, there is no one right code, no matter how much you wish there were. While you consider them "fake," by that definition everything about any business is "fake." They are non-living legal entities designed to protect those that work for them from devastating liability in order to bring products to market, thus raising the overall standard of living. Is is funny that you should mention "liv[ing] off other people's work," because if you understand that, then you can understand that the very nature of taxation is so that people can "live" off of other people's work. Once in a while you health care, but you ALWAYS get the CIA and corporate welfare. Swell plan. With a bigger base for necessary taxes the comparative amount every entity has to pay would go down. But as these tax havens are the holy cows of the big business nobody will touch them, be them Delaware, Cayman, Jersey, Zug or whereever. Except that "necessary taxes" never goes down. Ever. The total tax burden rises and continues to do so. Why do you think that Nokia is not taxed like everyone else in Finland? Because if it were, it would leave, and Finland would REALLY be skrewed. For all their welfare state rhetoric, they know full well how "beneficial" taxes are. They aren't. Cordially, Rush elrushbo2@theobviousgmail.com Remove the obvious... |

I think I would rather carry on going to bars where no one has a gun thanks. :-) More accurately, you should say you would rather carry on going to bars where you are willing to believe that no one has a gun. After working with the City, the Met, and CPS, they do. Cordially, Rush elrushbo2@theobviousgmail.com Remove the obvious... |

I think I would rather carry on going to bars where no one has a gun thanks. :-) That is indeed a good point...however...it's fairly easy to tell that if the ones who are carrying are up to no good. Anyone seen with a gun is likely to be reported...and I have been to many, many bars and I have never seen a crime involving a gun or that could have been stopped using a gun. In fact, in the situations I do know of where people I know have been attacked or murdered, I can safely say that guns would have made the situation far worse. Tell me...working with the police, did you ever get the impression that they thought it would be a good idea for the populace to arm themselves and that this is some way would reduce crime? I think I would rather carry on going to bars where no one has a gun thanks. :-) Read "More Guns, Less Crime:Understanding Crime and Gun-Control Laws" by John Lott. This book gives the best analysis of the subject I have seen and is the only analysis based on hard data, rather than social theory, I can find. |
